Ack! One Endocrinologist in my entire city!

I've decided that I need to go ahead and pursue an appt. with an endocrinologist (many of you suggested this to me a couple months back). I was able to find ONE in my entire city that is accepting new patients with my insurance. His office policy is that I see an OBGYN first. I told them that I had and his office told me that the next step for me to take is to have my OBGYN's office call them so they can get some information from them. Okay, this might seem silly...But can they decide not to call? Or drop me as a patient just because I want to start seeing an Endo instead? Now I'm nervous lol. I've only been seeing the OBGYN since January and I'm concerned that the Endo won't see me because of that. Sigh sigh sigh! Thanks for letting me vent!

I would doubt that your ob-gyn would hold anything against you for seeing an RE.

My ob-gyn told me that its really up to me whether to see him or an RE for fertility treatment. In his words "fertility often involves very time-sensitive stuff. I'm on call to deliver babies, so may not be here at a crucial moment. If you're ok with that, then great. If not, I have no problem with you seeing an RE."

He even told me that his specialty was gynecology and obstetrics. Probably more specifically obstetrics. He did not specialize in school, or in practice, in fertility. So, to get the most expert care, an RE is best.

The RE probably just wants to get your most recent pap results, and any history from your ob-gyn.

Hope that helps .

I live in Virginia Beach, so I am right here with you (geographically that is)
I am a military spouse, so I go where they tell me to go. I know Newport News isnt too far from VA Beach, so can I reccomend you try calling The New Hope Reeproductive Center in Va Beach down by the oceanfront. Here is their website http://www.thenewhopecenter.com/

from what i understand, i have never been there, they are really nice, and will help you in anyway that they can, sometimes even if you have NO insurance. try giving them a call, and look around. Hampton Roads has a lot of cities close, so even if you have to travel 40 mins to Chesapeake, or Williamsburg, or whatever it may be, it might be worth it. Good luck with everything!
