sizing up a pattern?

A friend of mine has an austistic son who is 5 and still in diapers. She is not looking forward to spending all the $$ on the next size up diapers as he will no longer be in a standard size and she will have to order from a med supply place. They were over for a playdate today and she was admiring ds's diapers. Especially his pockets. She asked if I would be willing to make some for her if she paid me. Well, of course!
I am wondering though about how to size up the diaper for a big kid. I'm assuming I just extend the rise and increase the span on the wings. Would I need to widen the whole diaper? Like draw a line down the center and add width there? Is this correct? Anyone else made diapers for older kids? I would sure appreciate your input.

I think ou would need to add a little to the width. you can always make one and try it on him and go from there...........that's what I do

If you ad a little to the width in the middle, don't forget to size up your inserts, too, so that you get full coverage and no leaks!

I've heard enlarging it about 10% is up to the next size.
