Thank you for starting this thread it is in the exact right place.

I have had writer's block SO bad that I'm ready to give up... I've even had a hard time keeping up with my reading. I'll read all of your replies for (hopefully ) inspiration.

Even with prompts, even when picking up my own work to revise, I can't seem to get back into it.

I'd like to join this thread, I need motivation right now, big time! I've been on maternity leave since 5 weeks before I had my daughter (who is now 14 months) and haven't done any paid work in that time. When DD was six months old I began writing again, slowly, just to get the creative juices flowing. I got an unpaid regular gig at a fairly well-known website so I'm building up a portfolio of work and it's good in that it keeps me in the 'habit', but I really need to buckle down and get some paid work now. I have a To Do list of research/enquiries I need to do or make to get things kick-started. I hope you don't mind if I share it with you, writing things down for others to see really keeps me motivated!

*contact local papers, ask if there is anything I can cover/write
*contact my previous town's paper; ask if they'd like anything contributed from a former townie who now lives abroad (maybe on their less formal website?)
*talk to a career counselor at a local university's journalism school; ask what resources are available to get me started in freelance work
*ask about tutoring students or editing their work for small fees
*enquire with my university's alumni association if there are any contacts/associations in my new area
*email previous professor who was my mentor; ask for advice/reference
*email some online publications; ask if they take freelance submissions
*National Union of Journalists -- do I meet the criteria for joining? what benefits might I see from being a member?

Thanks, loriedna! If only I could sit down and write a book that's readable.

Today I did business writing. Not my fav, but it helps buy cloth diapers, kwim?

And I organized the kitchen. Sort of. Woohoo. How sad...I'm now making cleaning one of my writing goals. :

So, I never wrote that post, being the queen of procrasinators!

I've been mad busy lately with vacations and bad backs and all sorts of stuff, but I got up this morning and wrote a big chunk o' novel and I am really jazzed about it. (I blogged about it on Not Hannah.) I've also been really disciplining myself to write my for-pay blogs more frequently.

How are y'all doing with the writing? Any interesting words spewing out?
