Info please - Knit fabric - ok for skirt?

I have a pattern for a skirt... kind of a tiered skirt but not really, more of just a skirt with a ruffled piece attached to the bottom, elastic and drawstring waistband. The pattern says cotton is okay for using but it doesn't specify knit or woven and I would like to use some of the organic cotton knit that Hancock's carries. Would it stretch too much? Is there anything else I should know about working with knits? The only thing I've ever made with them is a waldorf doll...

The end fit will really depend on how stretchy of a knit you use. You can always take in a little if you need, but I can't think of a good reason it wouldn't work in this case. The real trouble happens when you use a non stretchy woven where a knit is required.

I just bought 5 yds of the organic bamboo jersey and it is nice, a little thinner that I'd wanted,( but still suitable for what I wanted) and the price is good.

It should be ok, depending on how heavy the knit is. The only other major thing to mention is that you should use a ballpoint needle in your machine - the tip of the ballpoint needle has a little ball on the end (really, really tiny) which lets it slide between the fibres instead of cutting through the knit threads. It's best for stretch fabrics and knits, and helps them last longer.
