PA Lactivists

My sister just sent me a copy of a letter her friend's cousin wrote to the Patriot News about being approached while breastfeeding in a business in Mechanicsburg.
Does anyone know the laws? I'm in AZ so I couldn't help. Does anyone know the PA laws? Annettemarie? My sister works at LGH so she's gonna ask around there also.

As soon as I have the writer's permission, I will post the letter. She was not asked to leave, but the owner's wife said "My husband doesn't like it when customers nurse in our restaurant."

TIA

As of now, as far as I know, there aren't any statewide laws in PA. There are some towns that have a law telling the dummies that breastfeeding is not indecent exposure.

If someone said that to me, my response would be "fine, we'll take our money elsewhere and be sure to tell all our friends and family too."

there are no laws in pa for nip. please go to www.birthwithoutboundaries.com. they helped organize a letter campaign to senators who will be voting on a bill protecting nip. also they helped me organize a nurse in at a local mall that threatened to have me arrested for nip.

one more thing there is a thread in this forum, i will try to bump it for you to see.

It would be great to have more details on the restaurant, date, etc. so that this incident could be referenced as yet another reason we need legislation in PA. Now is an important time -- she needs to write her state senator and others on the committee!!!

ETA: All I can think of hearing this is what my response would be, "And my baby doesn't it like it when restaurant owners discriminate against him."

OK, so there are no laws protecting nip. My sister essentially told me the same thing today.

Thanks, I'll post more details if I hear of any.

BTW, for those of you who live near Mechanicsburg, don't bother trying to feed your baby at the Philadelphia Steak and Hoagie shop on Simpson Ferry Rd. :

Wow. I guess I'm lucky I've never run into any problems or issues nursing DS in public... I have gotten dirty looks, nasty stares, and whispering at a distance, but those can all be ignored easily.

I'm checking the birthwithoutboundaries site now.

Thanks for the heads up!

No laws in PA except in the city of Philly, but I am very hopeful that things will start happening soon!

Hi! Jake Marcus from Birth Without Boundaries here

Take a look at the web site to see what is happening in PA http://www.birthwithoutboundaries.com While we work internationally, we are based in Harrisburg so organizing something in Mechanicsburg would not be a problem. You can post here with what you want to do or PM me

Remember everyone - just because you don't have a NIP law doesn't mean there is nothing you can do. And just because you do have a NIP law, that doesn't mean there is something you can do under that law.

Love,
Jake, off to make another pot of coffee

Oh, and one more thing. I have a reporter from the Patriot News who has been looking for someone local (as in near Harrisburg) who has been harassed so that she can convince her editor that the pending NIP legislation is "newsworthy." I smell an opportunity

Jake,
My sister checked out the site and was impressed. I have left it in her hands now because I do not know the parties involved. You may hear from her but I don't know how much she'll get involved. She told me today that she was nursing her 9 month old in the museum last week and a guard told her there was a "comfort room" available and she said "No thanks" When she checked it out later she found that it was basically a changing room/child's toilet with a couch that REEKED.

The reporter should be able to find the contact info for the original letter writer about the eating establishment through the paper since she wrote it to them. The name of the restaurant is Philadelphia Steak & Hoagie House.

I will be in PA for the month of June so I will watch for an "events' surrounding the future law change!

Thanks everyone for the info.
