Question mama's

Ok so dd was born a week ago last thursday and it seems like she has some mucus in her nose and when she is nursing she will make a squeeky noise when she is nursing like she can't catch her breath. She doesn't do it all the time but there are definatly times that it catches her. Its been too long since my other dd was a babe for me to remember if she did this, but is this something I should be concerned about? She was born almost 3 weeks early so I don't want her to get sick and me not catch it.

DS does this too, and I actually took him to the dr. because it was worrying me. But my dr. said, in our case, it was fine--sleep with a humidifier on, watch the breathing, and especially watch baby's color. If they start changing color (turning grey or blue-ish) then it's time to go to the ER. I hope your little one feels better soon!

My baby does the same thing. Doctor said the same thing as the pp -- humidifier, and watch her lips. If they turn purple/bluish, bring the baby in. Otherwise, it's normal.

My James is like that, too. The doc says some newborns are just mucus-y and it's not a big deal, but that I should do whatever he needed to be comfortable-- in his case, he has to sleep on his side or upright in a seat, because he's stuffy and not comfy on his back. Mostly he sleeps latched onto my boob, so that's fine, but our doc wouldn't go for that so I just didn't mention it. She also suggested a little saline to loosen the mucus, and letting him sit in the bathroom while somebody takes a steamy shower.

He sneezes a lot, too.
