Birth Bead Swap - now that we're all out of the 1st tri!!! - Page 2

I guess we would need to close it at some point so that we know how many beads to send, no?
I'd like to participate!
And, as I sid in the last thread, I'd prefer TP to Yahoo! (probably wouldn't do it if it was Yahoo -- have no idea how Yahoo works, and since we're all from MDC, it just seems to make sense that we'd make use of it's Trading Post -- and I think everyone has the minimum posts to participate...)
Thanks for volunteering to organize & I'm waiting to figure out how I'd do the $$ issue from Canada... learning new things everyday!

The Trading Post and its subforums are community service forums for members of MDC. You must meet the criteria of being a registered member for more than 60 days and have posted a minimum of 50 posts to the MDC boards before you may post to sell or arrange a swap or co-op.
To see if you meet the criteria, just try to click on the forum itself here... if it lets you, you are IN to WIN!!!
(if you don't meet the criteria I guess it'll give you a message saying you're not allowed to view the forum...)

I would prefer to do it on the TP if everybody has access. I don't love Yahoo, and why NOT do it here?

subbing... I'm still interested.

The only reason I think yahoo would be easier is that you dont have just one long continous thread. You have databases, files, folders, separate messages etc. I think it would be much easier to organize (a database for addresses, who has sent beads, whose beads are received, etc). Everyone has access to yahoo, it only takes seconds to set up. But, I am not hosting, so I am fine with wherever it goes.

Has anyone volunteered to host? I think yahoo is much easier as well and if you aren't the person hosting all you have to do is read your email. If no one else has volunteered I wouldn't mind.

I said I'll host it.

I don't mind it being on here. I'm pretty sure I can keep up with it all. (I'm on here way too much ) We have pm's so I could keep in touch that way if we needed something, etc.

No one needs any addresses except for me. You could just be sure to send that with your beads or you could pm it (whatever way you want). That would keep it simple.

As far as sent/recieved I think I could keep up with that.

Just let me know.

Also~ We do need to set a date to close the sign up part. Also a date for getting the beads out. Suggestions??

Quick question...Do the beads need to have a certain size hole??? If so, what size? TIA!

Great Stacy! We can always have a boost your post count thread for those who need to get up to the minimum for the TP. I would say that maybe by April (sometime) to get everyone signed up and then May for sending? That way everyone should get their beads by June and will have plenty of time to do what they want with them by the time baby arrives. About string size I think they should be big enough to string on some sort of standard jewelry string like tiger tail. Just my thoughts.

Sounds great to me! I think April deadline to set up and May to send beads is very reasonable. I am so excited!
I would love to join but I won't have the 60 days for TP access until mid april I think....
I'm still interested and excited about it! I'll keep checking back... do I need to PM you my address right now, Stacy?

Tiger tail size sounds good to me - I'm thinking nursing necklace and I hate teeny-tiny bead stuff, beautiful as it is. (no patience!)

And I have never been impressed with Yahoo's "database" capabilities... as a sometime database programmer, I find it somewhat of an insult to the word. ;-)

I have run swaps and coops on DiaperPin, which is very similar. There, the host just plans ahead a bit when you set up the thread so that the top 3 posts in the thread are reserved for admin use. (in this case, the first post for basic swap info, the second to show whose beads have been received, the third to show whose have been shipped, etc).

Can someone who's done a bead swap give a bit more information on how we choose beads? Like colours, materials... is it anything goes? What if one mama chooses natural-tone wood beads and someone else chooses high-tech resin or acrylic? Do they look weird together or somehow "fit"?

I'd love to participate!

i definitely want to participate but i've just joined and so will have no way of having access to the trading post for another two and a half months.

i really would like to join though!

I've never done a bead swap before, so take my opinion for what it's worth.
I think having a wide variety of beads would be lovely! It would be a great way to symbolize the differences between us, and those difference coming together. Also, I would anticipate getting more questions from family and friends if my beads were quirky and stood out. All the more opprtunity to share!

Someone on the original bead swap interest thread linked a pic to her beads from another DDC bead swap. They were all totally different, but it looked really cool and funky! I agree with sanguine - the more diverse, the better.

For those that can't access TP I could keep them updated with pm's. They could just pm me that they didn't have access, etc. I don't see a problem with that.

just piping in to say I would really rather keep it at mothering and not yahoo just because I am more comfortable here. Probably not a deal breaker for me. I also like the variety of beads, it makes for a more interesting finished product that better represents the variety of people in the ddc.
