So, wifey and I are debating, once I'm at a decent enough weight that when I'm pregnant you'd be able to tell (a side point), where we are going to get sperm from.

A donor makes more sense than a sperm bank since there really isn't one anymore in our city, and we can't afford to drop a schwack of money on getting pregnant.

How have you ladies managed? Have you asked a friend? How do you ask friends for such things? what about strangers?

STD is also a concern. We wouldn't be concieving by the "natural" method, but via syringe. what should potential donors be tested for?

I'm, in a way, jealous of straight women, or bi women who are partnered with a man who is fertile... an endless supply.

My wife and I are ttc #1 using a private sperm donor...... AF is due tomorrow but no sign of her yet and no pre-AF symptoms, so fingers crossed..... We opted for this route being as using a sperm bank can be costly and also the life span of frozen sperm (once dethawed is not as long as fresh sperm).

We posted an ad on the net searching for a private sperm donor (explicitly stating that it would not be done the traditional way). Once we found our sperm donor, we met up with him to discuss what our expectations were, and vice-versa.... Our donor went to a clinic and had testing done for HIV, Aids, STD's. He also purchased a fertility test off the net to test his sperm count. Our sperm donor is absolutely fabulous and we are so comfortable with him. We have provided you with a link to a website that offers services of private donors. There is a fee for joining but it will put you in touch with donors in and around your area.
