Painful pooping in 4 month old

My ds is 4 months old and for the past 3-4 weeks he has been having green poops. I wasn't too worried about this at first because he wasn't having any other problems or symptoms. The past week he has been having painful poops where he cries and pushes so hard for 15-30 mins. It comes and it is green, seedy and has some mucous. After that he seems fine. He is also waking up alot at night and will not totally wake, but thrash around alot and I bf him back to sleep.

He is EBF and fed on demand. I have also already thought about foremilk/hindmilk imbalance, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I hate to see him in pain. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Can gut yeast cause pain? I am going to start eliminating dairy as of today.

Have you talked to an LLL Leader? There may be more to this puzzle. Has he been to the drs. lately? IT's common for BF babies to go a while between poops and then have a large one. It's not supposed to hurt though.

Dairy allergy in BF babies seems to be pretty common. It may take anywhere from days to weeks for you to see improvement if that's what is causing it. Also, when eliminating dairy, be sure to eliminate all dairy, even the hidden kind. www.kellymom.com has lots of info on the dairy hidden in what seems like everything. I have eliminated dairy too, so feel free to PM me if you'd like to talk about it more.

I'd suggest you contact a reputible LC or an LLL Leader. Remember, no matter what is going on, breastfeeding him is going to be better for him than anything else anyone may suggest. He's lucky to have a mama so concerned about him!
