Need Opinions Qucikly! DD (3) hurt foot yesterday and won't/can't walk on it

She fell off a chair yesterday, cried, got up and was fine for a minute or three, then started crying that she couldn't walk. She spent all day on the sofa with ice on it. I finally gave her Advil before bed, because she started crying anytime she moved it. She got up in the middle of the night to get a drink, and seemed able to walk on it until she suddenly started crying and needed me to carry her back to bed.

It's the outside of her foot that hurts - not the ankle or anything. There's no swelling or bruising. Is this a ped worthy injury, or should I just keep her off of it for a couple of days? I need to decide soon, because if she needs to go to the ped, I need to keep DS home from school (He has a half day and I'm worried about making sure I'm there to pick him up from school and not somewhere getting xrays.)

If she can't walk on it, I'd take her. She could have a hairline fracture. My niece broke her arm and there was no swelling. My sister, who is a nurse, didn't think it was broken, but finally took her in the next day when her dd kept complianing of pain. She had a hairline fracture. So, even a professional can be unsure. The only way to know is to get an x-ray.

This is kinda tough. We recently had a similar decision to make. We decided to watch and wait.

There are loads of bones down there. Broken bones don't always swell and bruise (okay, it's not the bones swelling and bruising...) There may me other damage to consider. Without her looking, touch different parts of both feet. Use a pin to lightly prick. Look for differences.

Same here. My dd jumped out of a bunk bed at 3 and wouldn't walk on her leg. No bruising or swelling. She really didn't even cry. I took her to the ped 2 days later and she had a hairline fracture on her shin bone. :

Alright - I'll call the ped when they open up and see if they can squeeze her in. DS didn't want to go to school today anyway
