When did you have your HIV screening this pregnancy...

I don't remember being asked now that I recall...

It was on the list of prenatal bloodwork that was supposed to be done before my first actual visit with the doctor. I actually went through that list and refused several of the tests--like the STDs and HIV. It annoyed the nurse because they are all part of the prenatal package, but I thought it was a waste of time to be tested for all that stuff since I'm in a monogamous relationship with no worries.

I don't think they did, it wasn't on the list of things test for in my bloodwork papers, but maybe I missed it. I know they are supposed to, although dh and I have been monogamous since my last pregnancy (and before that as well- not to make it sound like sleeping around is something we do, it msot definetely isn't). stopping now.... rambling on and on and on...

I declined it, but it would have been at my first work-up, around 6 or 8 weeks.

I went for my first apt at 8 weeks and was given my rx for the blood test including HIV at that time.
I too am in a monogamous relationship, but the tests don't really bother me, so I just did them.

It would've been at my intro appointment, around six weeks. I don't know if I declined it or not. I don't have any issues with being tested, but I've only had one partner in just about a decade and I've been tested more than once in that time.

I had mine with all of the initial blood work drawn at my 8ish week appointment.

I declined, it would've been in my first blood work.

I had mine at the beginning...I figured they were going to take my blood anyways I know I don't have it so oh well...I will prolly deny it next time!

It was offered at my first visit (14 weeks) but I declined as I figured it was a waste of the government's money and the lab's time. I requested other work that I felt was more important (thyroid etc) instead since I know that I am negative for STDs.

I had to get mine done before my first prenatalat around 10 or 11wks (after my "meeting" with the nurse; to collect medical history info etc)....I know they did the HIV because I had to sign a waiver allowing them to do so - I don't know why?? but they must have tested like a million other things because they filled up like 6 or 7 test tube with blood and took my urine sample... I knew I didn't have any STDs but it never occured to me to turn the tests down - I thought it was a law or something in order for them to care for me...I think they did also check my iron levels which was pretty important because I tend to be borderline anemic (my prenatal vitemans have been great for that though!!)

I had mine done at 10 weeks. I had a blood transfusion in the 80's for major surgery and did not feel the need to refuse because of it.

It was part of my first visit bloodwork...I was going to turn it down when I was informed that the tests would cost my insurance MORE done individually than in this bloodwork 'package', I checked and it was true : so I just ok'd everything. I mean, why not? It's no skin off my nose...

I declined, it would have been done at my first pre-natal with my co-care office, at 17 weeks.

I didn't have it done either, I've been with my dh for 10 years - over that time I've probably had 4 or 5 done, and nothing has changed since the last one.

Why does everyone decline it? I wouldn't have I just remember this blue form with all of these codes on it one of which "Prenatal Screening"... I mean if you don't have anything I think its reassuring that you are screened... But if thats what it is... I feel better, because I was alittle scared, I could never forgive myself if I did any harm to my baby because I was afraid of a negitive result... But my mind is at ease... Thanks!

Yeah, I think mine was called something like that on the top of the lab slip.

Sometimes it is really expensive...once I went for a pap (at a time I did not have insurance) and the HIV screening would have been $600!!!! ...that time I declined because there was no way I could afford it!!! Wierd...because being pregnant and with a reasonably good insruance (I work for a government) I only have to pay $20 to have my baby including all the tests and everything!!!

I must be seriously lucky... The only thing I have to pay for is a $10 co-pay when I go see my ob/gyn...

For me, it's an uneccesary test. I've been with my husband for 12 years. Never had a blood transfusion, never done IV drugs, always had new needles when getting tattooed. I have great insurance...I don't pay a dime for anything. I don't see the need in making my insurance pay for a test that I feel is uneccesary.

I guess for me I declined things that I didn't think were necessary. . .honestly, I don't believe in having tests done just to have them done when there is really no reason why. Another reason I declined a lot of things was because I had just been tested for STDs when I wanted to get an IUD and it was a requirement (yep, I had an appt for an IUD when I found out I was pg )
