Bridal shower Menu-Need HELP!!!!!

I'll be hosting my sister's friends bridal shower. And I'm struggling with what food to serve! My sis wants me to serve "finger foods"......and I've no clue what those would be!!

We are not that much into American food....I was thinking about some easy Mexican food like fajita and such and some Indian stuffs but my sis says those would be too much work ...

So, I need some help. Please give me ideas as to what types of food I can serve , we'll have probably 20-25 people still not 100%sure. I would like to serve a lot of varities of food (just don't know what! yikes)

How about share the menu of your own shower (if you had one and remember the menu) or someon'es that you went!! Please help!!

My bridal shower was in rural Georgia. Probably the things we had are foreign to you. I know we had pimento cheese sandwiches, bendectine sandwiches, cheese straws, mints, nuts, and punch. There were a few other things, too.

But, really, I like to serve utensil-less dishes at showers. I like the idea that no one needs to pick up a fork (makes less dishes to wash, plus less chance for a topple on the carpet, too). My baby shower even had petit fors, so you didn't even need a fork for the cake!

my girlfriend has a recipe where you take half a crescent roll, take sausage links (cooked half way) and cheese, and wrap them up together, then pop 'em in the oven. They NEVER last longer than it takes to put the platter out,and no forks required...better than my sister in law's smokey links version, hands down!

I usually make turkey or chicken or tuna salad with croissants. If it's chicken or turkey, we usually make it a waldorf. You can get everything (including BEAUTIFUL chunked turkey or chicken breast in a can that DOES NOT smell or taste like cat food!) at costco if there's one near you (sams used to have the turkey, too...), it's VERY easy to make, quick (fifteen minutes or so at the counter, all told), and inexpensive (can't beat costco prices). Then a green and/or tater salad...again, fairly quick, and not labor intensive. Also, we always make a jello fluff. Take a large box of jello, chill till soft set, then beat in with a hand mixer a thawed container of cool whip...if you're really adventerous, you can then fold in fruit (ie: mandarin orange slices chopped into three pieces each for orange, fresh or frozen and drained raspberries for raspberry, etc). Really, it's no trouble to do any of that stuff, and if you ask me, it's nice to be able to sit down to a meal with people you haven't seen in a long time...especially if you have to watch someone open an hour's worth of gifts! And it's none of it hot food or tedious to make.

I loved the food at my baby shower. It was brunch. We had scones, (raspberry & dark chocolate, and blueberry), quiche (spinach and ham & cheese), fresh berries with yogurt and granola, bagels with lox and cream cheese, mimosas (I didn't have these but I assume they tasted good), iced tea, cake and ice-cream

I hosted a fondue party for my sister's shower. Everything could be done in advance and everyone loved it.

My sisters shower was a tea party. Cucumber sammies, cream cheese and apricot finger sammies, cream cheese,pineapple and orange finger sammies. We had chicken salad and egg salad croissants. We also had a nice butternut squash soup. Everything was made the night before then assembled the day of the shower. We did some pudding topped filo cups )chocolate and vanilla) and a lemon curd topped with raspberries for deserts. Everyone LOVED it and it was pretty easy to put together.

I've a dumb question but I've to ask since couple of people mentioned it here- what's cheese straw?

BetsyS, I was laughing it's true that what you had is really foreign to me

race_kelly, about that steamed shrimp-did you add any spices? We are spicy people meaning without any spice we can't eat anything so wondering if any spice could be added and then steam? Please come back and give more ideas!!!

courtenay_e, thanks for the tips!!!! My sis is planning to be a member at costco. Btw, how do you make the creame cheese and cucumber sandwich?

I usually either dip them in a really spicy ketchup and horseradish sauce, you could make a few diffent spicyness levels. Personally the hotter the better! You can also cook them first and then sprinkle them with old bay seasoning. Yum! Now I want shrimp!

I thought of another idea! I'll see if I can find the recipe, but you can marinate the shrimp in a chili and lime sauce and then grill them. It's so good. I'll see if I can track down the recipe.

You can either mix softened cream cheese with herbs (like garlic and chives), you can buy (at costco, too) a soft french cheese that's like REALLY good cream cheese called Aoulette (think I spelled it correctly) in a tub about the size of your fist that has garlic and herbs in it, or just use plain old softened cream cheese --and thinly sliced cucumbers on thinly sliced sandwich bread that you'd cut in quarters, or on these little tiny sqaure loaves of unseeded rye or white bread that you can buy at a good deli.

Sammie=Sandwich

Cucumber Sammie
1 MEDIUM CUCUMBER ( PEELED,GRATED AND WELL DRAINED)
1 (3 OZ) PKG. CREAM CHEESE
1/2 CUP MAYONNAISE

THE NEXT STEP IS VERY VERY IMPROTANT. DRAIN CUCUMBERS BETWEEN PAPER TOWELS.( YOU MAY EVEN HAVE TO CHANGE PAPER TOWELS AT LEAST ONCE)

MIX INGREDIENTS TOGETHER, THEN CHILL AT LEAST 30 MIN.

THIS SHOULD BE SERVED ON WHITE BREAD(CRUSTS REMOVED, OF COURSE) BECAUSE WHEAT BREAD WILL TAKE AWAY FROM THE DELICATE FLAVOR OF THE CUCUMBER FILLING.

Cheese straws are a savory shortbread like cookie (but not sweet--it just has the texture of shortbread). Really, really good. And a staple at any of our gatherings. My aunt makes the best ones.

2 sticks butter
1/2 lb. sharp cheese
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
2 c. plain flour, not sifted
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream cheese and butter. Mix dry ingredients together. Add alternately to creamed mixture. Use cookie press and make straws or roll into little marbles and press with fork on cookie sheet. Bake 5 to 12 minutes at 375 degrees. Don't let them get too brown.

Another thing we like is called "pickled shrimp". I usually add a couple of jalapenos to this recipe.

Rollup 'sandwiches' in tortillas to look like pinwheels are good

Spread a tortilla with seasoned cream cheese
add fillings, spreading thinly: cucumber, grated sharp chedder, bacon bits, green onions, etc
Roll up
Chill a few hours
Slice into 2-inch sections
Arrange on a platter
