whew! standardized testing

For the first time this year I have to test dd1 to comply with state hsing requirements. I bit the bullet today and gave her the first test in the CAT, vocabulary. She finished early and missed only one. Yea!

Being such a schooled person myself I regrettably place undo importance on the scores of these things. I think I was able to shield dd from this, I tried very hard to be casual and *no big deal* about this - it seemed to work. Still, I am very pleased that so far it is very easy for her. I guess our crazy-eclectic - unschoolish style works!

Awesome congrats! I have a few years to wait yet but hope not to be too stressed when my dd gets there! LOL!

This year we also had to comply with state testing. thankfully, I had the opportunity to use the Hewitt PASS test. I appreciate that you test accord to the level they are at, not some preconcieved level that a standards committee feels your child should be at. He of course did well and I did find areas in which I would like to place more emphasis with my sons education for next year. I guess I wouldn't mind doing further testing for our own use rather than for the requirements.
Congrats to your daughter!
If it really hard to find that balance in what emphasis we allow ourselves to place on such testing. I have heard many invalidate the test by simply having the children fill in the dots to make a picture. I wonder how that would work. I suppose I could try that one year when we are required to give the schools the results. It would be interesting to see the results.

thanks.

I think I was worried that this type of schooling would be so unfamiliar to her that she would freeze and miss every other question. Then I would have been faced with cheating for her (as an act of civil disobedience?) in order to meet the state requirements.
