Oops. He shouldn't have bothered putting his foot in it!
First, he said he didn't want to get into an argument about it, but did I know blah blah blah.
So I said Yes, I knew, and here's why it's flawed: (then I went on, and on, and on).
He was kind of smiling out of the corner of his mouth for most of this; I think he was a little embarrassed I knew *so freaking much* about circ, HIV/AIDS, the African studies, and the WHO, including Dr. De Cock.
Then, at the end, I brought up the new research regarding Langerhans cells, and was able to pull an article related to that out of my bag (which was next to me). All while I was nursing dd.
He would love to be able to convince me about circ, but I totally blew him out of the water (again). He has no good reason for wanting to do it, so there's absolutely no way it'll ever happen. I told him I hadn't informed him of the research on Langerhans cells, or anything else I'd learned recently, because I didn't want to argue about it.
You could just say, I'm, erm, making a file for when I get pg again and he wants to discuss it. See, I told him I'm not discussing it while pg b/c I'll get too emotional and flip out at him. Right now, I can discuss it calmly and rationally, no matter how many stupid things he says. But he insists it's pointless to talk about until I'm pregnant.
Since the baby will be a surprise, once I'm pregnant I'll tell him it's pointless to talk about it (all hypothetical) until we know it's a boy. That will be after birth. Oh, the delays, the delays.
It also helps our family MD (who will probably attend the birth) is anti-circ, to the degree that he refuses to perform them on ethical grounds.
Anyway, I hate arguing with my dh about this, but it was great to just have SO MUCH info that I totally destroyed him, very gently and politely, when he thought he had a real ace up his sleeve.
Generally, he's an excellent debater, but he can't do much with inferior knowledge.
I just can't wait until he starts quoting Dr. Schoen, and I bring out his circ poem and read it aloud!!

I too blew DH out of the water when he pulled the "we should have circ'd DS b/c of the HIV study" arguement. I was totally prepared to deal with it right on the spot without having to go looking through the studies b/c of MDC. Ya'll keep me up to date.
