mucus plug vs. bloody show?

Is there a difference? I thought the mucus plug was mucus that you could lose weeks before labor and even regenerate, whereas bloody show was blood that is a sign of imminent labor - like within hours. But in my mw's handout they are listed as the same thing?

confused :

My mucus plug was like pink/red snot. My bloody show was more blood than mucus. The bloody show was in an amount that required a pad, the plug did not. Also, I lost my first plug around 36 weeks. It regenerated and the second one I lost gradually over time.

I dunno-- but for me, when the blood showed up the baby showed up very shortly after! It could be just a bit of blood but that bit was a great sign!
