For the poll please answer only if you and your mother went into labor naturally. Thanks!

Ok so for those of you who's mothers went into labor naturally, how many of you went at about the same time? My mom lives in Indiana and will be flying out for my labor so she can be the support person for my ds. We're trying to figure out when she should get here so she gets here in time. I'm positive on my dates because I charted. I was thinking she should get here at 38 weeks, but she says she really only want to be here 3 weeks at the most so would rather come at 39 weeks. She seemed surprised I would even think that I would go earlier than my due date.

My ds was induced at 39 weeks so I can't go by that except to say that I didn't appear to be starting labor anytime soon but of course we all know that doesn't always mean anything at all.

My mom had my older brother at around 43-44 weeks. She's not positive of her dates but he was definitely post-dates. She said I came 12 days late. Again she's not positive of her dates but she feels she had better dating with me than my brother. And just to throw in some perspective my maternal grandmother also went late with her 2 kids (one of them was possibly as late as 46-48 weeks, he did come out brain damaged so it's likely).

I don't want to force my mom to be here longer than she wants to be. I don't blame her, it's gonna be 110 degrees here in July and she HATES the heat and finds 75 degrees too hot for her lol. I also, of course, don't want her to miss the birth.

Planning the flight for your mom, I think that's just a craps shoot. Babies can come anytime, but it seems like usually there's a bit of a trend. If your first was induced at 39 weeks, I'd think that would be the earliest I'd plan to come.

To the poll -- My mom was expecting to go 42 weeks with me. Everyone in her family did. At 37 weeks, when I was born, she was REALLY not prepared. My parents didn't have anything for me. I slept in a drawer my first few nights. But, hey, I didn't care, I had diapers & breastmilk.

My kids were born at:
38 weeks
38 weeks
41.5 weeks (that pregnancy was my oddball complicated one though)

I was born on my due date, and when I had my son, I went into labor on the morning of his due date... he only missed being born on his due date by an hour

My mother had me 21 days late and I had all mine 13-16 days late so within the same week. But she went earlier with all my sibs by a mos or more.

ETA - this last time we figured I would go 14 days or later and my mom had to be out of town. No way around that and sure enough I went into labor about 12 hours after she left. Best advice I can give is don't stress too much about it and don't count on anything lol.

I was born at 41 wks, my sister at 42 wks and my brother at 42.5 weeks. I had ds at 35.5 weeks. My sister had her dd at 38 wks. There is no perceivable trend in our family!

I chose OTHER

My mom went into labor with me (her second of six) at 34 weeks, due to Jane Fonda and being berated by her drs for "already" gaining 14lbs. (I was under 5lbs at birth)

Al my babaies (5 of them) were born betweeen 37-41 weeks and were 7-8 and 9lbs.

I was born 2 weeks past my due date.
I know the dates are accurate because my mom took fertility drugs, so she knew exactly when she ovulated.

Both of my girls were born at 40w 6d. Also accurate dating because I always know when I ovulate.

Just for fun- my grandma says that my mom was born 4 weeks after her due date. I can't vouch for the accuracy of those dates though.

Alright fine, I give up, it IS going to be a total crap shoot on whether she gets here in time. She really wants to come at 39 weeks instead of 38 and she's already doing us this huge favor I feel bad for trying to convince her to come at 38...especially if I go 2 weeks over or something (and of course I'll get tons of "I told you so's" and I'll hear about it for the next 10 yrs).

To add to the problem, if she doesn't get here in time, I really don't have anyone else to use as a support person for my ds. I have one friend who would watch him and wouldn't mind attending my birth with him at all but I just don't want her here.
I guess maybe I'll still just have to insist on 38 weeks and see what she says. Maybe I'll bribe her with chocolate or something

I would think your first child not arriving before 39 weeks would be at least as good an indication that waiting until 39 weeks to show up is ok as your mother's birth history.

That said, my mother had me right around 40 weeks, and all my kids have been born the day before or day after their edd.
