how much to spend on childs easter basket?? - Page 3

We're giving dd some Kinder Ăśberraschung eggs and that's it. We might do an easter egg hunt.

we probably spent about $25 this year. that included a new basket and plastic eggs which we will be using next year, as well candy for the eggs (which will be hunted by levi, and my nephew, and possibly my niece).

the contents of the basket are mostly art supplies: chalk, glue, finger paints, wikki stix, bingo daubers, etc. also, i found a couple of religious cartoon dvds @the dollar store.

next year, i'm hoping to spend a bit less, since i will already have the basket and the eggs.

We just hide a few treats (chocolate, jelly belly, etc) and they collect them in a basket. No toys or anything non-consumable.

We have two children, and they're two years old and six months old. Our two year old will be getting sidewalk chalk and bubbles for Easter. The sidewalk chalk was given to us, and we spent less than $1 on the bubbles. We're visiting my husband's parents for the weekend, so I'm sure they'll buy him some candy because they love buying silly things for him. My six month old daughter won't be receiving anything from us. I'm sure grandma will buy her something cute.

So, we're spending $1, I don't know about the in-laws.

Abby's getting a Spring basket full of books I got on sale for about $30 (plus a book and small toy from her great-aunt). I'm pretty sure my mother will be getting her a few books as well. I recycled one of my childhood easter baskets, so that didn't cost anything, and she's too little for the plastic-type filler and candies.

I picked the 4 year old a Little Pony game ($9) up on clearance after Christmas, and got the 2 year old a Mrs. Potato Head ($6). Yesterday I bought some candy ($5), coloring books ($2), Rubber duck for the 2YO ($1), and a puzzle thing for the 4YO ($1.50)... comes to $24.50, or about $12.25 per kid! Easter is pretty much just the easter bunny for us, and I do have eggs from last year to put the candy in, and the baskets will be from last year, too. Last year I got them Candy Land, and a movie, and they always get coloring books b/c the color non-stop and I would have bought those anyway.

Normally I spend about $25. But, my daughter needs new Bare minerals makeup and she has a book list she wants, So, I will be spending about $60. It is all stuff I would have had to buy her anyway, but this way, it will be in her basket instead.

She needs new panties too, but I thought that was a little too tacky to stick in her Easter Basket. LOL

Any one looking for great Easter basket ideas should check out The Complete Tightwad Gazette from the library, it has some wonderful ideas!

I haven't even bought dd's stuff yet. : But I anticipate spending about $35. I'm getting her a dvd, two books, and a box of her favorite cookies (which will NOT all be eaten by her).

Couldn't tell you the total. I have picked up a few things here and there over the last few months that I know he will enjoy. Thomas the Tank Engine sandals on sale and a puzzle. He'll get some summer toys too, a bucket and shovel, I haven't picked up yet but he begs for one each time we go shopping. So maybe $20 total when added up. But the puzzle was something I bought in DEC, just had too much Christmas stuff so I held it back.

I have nto read all the replies but when I was a kid one of my fav parts of easter was the real hard-boiled eggs.

DD1 loves them too so we are making some and she will hunt those and eat them with salt or mustard. YUM!

Then I will give her a hollow chocolate bunny and some of those nasty peeps because she asked for them specificly!

When candy isnt' a daily thing then I don't see a problem putting it in an easter basket or stocking at christmas. Not a ton of it, but hey, it's a celebration!

So I usually spend $5.00 on candy and eggs, we use natural dyes like blueberries, carrots, grapejuice, etc. and we re-use baskets every year. I also refuse to buy that plastic grass crap! It's horrible for the environment and it sucks to clean it up around the house for weeks!

I bought everything at the after easter clearance sale last year, and picked up some candy last week (on sale also)
For two kids I'd say about $15 dollars. (10 was for the candy -- easter m&ms and jelly beans and at costco these cute bug shaped large chocolate figures)

we already have the plastic eggs and baskets from previous years

So I still need to get easter basket stuff. I know I have the baskets and grass in the basement from previous easters. There's no way I'm spending $20 a kid thats crazy, JMO (no flames),. Don't want any useless junk either..spend too much time getting rid of it all LOL. I really like Earthy Mama's idea of the clay pot to decorate..I may do that. I hate to get candy, but the kids expect candy especially the older ones. And I'm going to try to put an easter egg hunt together too. I'm looking to spend under 10 per child and I'm going to check out the tightwad gazette as someone here suggested.

I spent about $30 to be divided 4 ways. It can be easier to spend less for more kids because you can divy up packs of multiples.

$10 for the two kids. Each gets:

Bug net
Bug box
playdoh
organic fruit snacks

And 2 dozens eggs filled with chocolate.

They will also get baskets from both grandparents and an easter egg hunt at church.

I think I have spent about $20 on dd's basket. The things we bought for her basket are a child size set of gardening tools, a dvd, a book, and a cd--I got everything used except for the dvd. I also knit a duck toy for her, with yarn that I already had. We didn't buy any candy, because dh's employer sent him home with 20 LBS of chocolate yesterday.

I went the lazy way this year and bought my girls medium-ish pre-made up Easter baskets from Big Lots. I spent $30 total for all three. I'm waiting for the clearance sales to buy Easter dresses to wear for pictures.
