'intact' or just 'penis'?

Thread Starter
in a kids sexuality book that my whole community (minus me) thinks is great....

they show an illustration of an

intact penis next to a cut penis.

(the captions read)

'uncircumcised penis' and 'circumcised penis'.

everyone in the community wishes that the book said 'intact' and 'circumcised'.

i kind of wish it just read 'penis' and 'circumcised penis'. as in, a 'penis' is the default, as opposed to 'intact or circumcised, take your pick!'

i realize this context would be limited, b/c already so many people are ignorant of genital integrity issues...but i'm thinking of making this distinction in my speech in certain examples...

what do you think?

I tend to agree w/ you in that context it definitely should read penis under the natural pic and circumsised under the other one!

The word 'uncircumcised' is so idiotic.

It's like me taking a picture of my hand and saying, "Look folks, there's my unamputated hand!"

I'm grouchy this morning so I'll suggest that it says: Normal penis and mutilated penis.

I agree too.

I'd write normal penis and circumcised (surgically modified) penis

I thik either "intact penis" or just the word "penis" is fine.
I don't think "uncircumcised" is the right word to use.

Even on autopsy reports circumcised is the norm...if the deceased is circumcised, nothing is noted, if they are intact, it states uncircumcised (in CT anyway) I think Elvis' Autopsy report had that as well ao you can add TN to that list.

Perhaps "natural" and "surgically reduced"?

OMG you have me laughing so hard! Most of you know my DH is an amputee, so I am just envisioning a picture of his stump with the caption "amputated leg" and a picture of his whole leg with the caption "unamputated leg". Maybe its just me, but that is damn funny!!!

To the OP: I absolutely think "normal" and "mutilated" would be appropriate. I like "surgically reduced" also.

I vote for "intact penis" and "circumcised penis." I mean, a circumcised penis is still a penis!

ITA that the word "uncircumcised" is kind of awkward, and gives the feeling that circ is "normal" and intact is "oops they forgot to circ."

Maybe sending a picture of your dh or another amputee labeled in that manner would get the message across to the publisher about how ridiculous their penis caption really is

I definitely like "surgically reduced" as well

I'll have to ask DH if he'd be in on it. I am sure he wouldn't mind. He hates RIC as much as I do.

I have no clue about autopsies, but when a man joins the military on their medical records it says "circumcised" under medical procedures, and nothing if they are intact.

Columbine massacre notes the circumcised status of killers Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris (some theories say they were unhappy about their circumcised status and that helped build their anger; I'm not saying it's fact, but it has been floated out there). Plus, the circumcised status of some the male classmates killed.
