No tub - doggie wipe

Hi,

My dog had a big surgery this past week, but had vomited earlier (clear, but smelly) and it was all over his fur. The vet didn't let me bathe him because of the stitches, but I could wipe him down with water or something.

Shampoo would have left a soapy residue and gave him a spiky mohawk, so I just combined some vinegar and water in a bowl, sprinkled a bit of baking soda and put a drop of bergamot essential oil. I let this fizz for a while and then I took some paper towels and dipped it into the solution (it's a buffer solution at this point), and I wiped the dog down. He smells nice and clean! It got some pollen off his coat too, ew.

I need to do more research into buffer solutions, I know buffers clean well, but not sure how well they disinfect. This kind of solution is great for cleaning and for people who hate the smell of vinegar. There wasn't any kind of scent but "ahhh, pretty!" after I mixed all that stuff.

This kind of solution would be great as an air freshener.

If you err on the side of more baking soda and a little less vinegar (ACV would be better) - I've tried that as a mild no-poo alternative recipe for second-day no-pooing, and it works nicely. If you put too much vinegar then your hair gets stringy.

Anyway - thought I'd share. I cut my hand with an edge of a can this morning too and it kept trickling blood, even after I washed it with some liquid soap and put pressure on it with a napkin. The buffer solution stopped the remainder of the bleeding and cleaned out the cut some more too, lol.

What a fabulous idea! I have an elderly dog who is impossible to bathe, and this sounds like it would work great for her stinky fur . I'm gonna try it today

A spray bottle of the after-fizzed solution is fine too. I just wanted to see how it would work

After the dog was mostly dry, I brushed his coat and he was happy.

Thanks for the info -- I didn't know about the buffer solution, and I always wondered why people would mix baking soda and vinegar for cleaning with -- didn't it just make water?! Now I know better. And if it makes the vinegar smell less like vinegar, my dh will appreciate it.

Here is an interesting bit about it.
