It seems they closed all but ONE studio in our area... just my luck as for valentines day i got a new 'memberhip' that costs $60 but saves about $100 so it was worth it to us since we get several pictures a year... well i was calling to make an appt next week for easter and yes you guess it... all but ONE studio closed up 'sometime last week'
and of course the one that is open, I CAN NOT STAND THE STAFF...

I have half a mind to call the corporate office and request a refund...

OH well off to kiddie kandis where they DO NOT take appts...

the 2 picture people locations here closed last week too. (there was an article about it in today's business section.) they didnt give a reason why. they did say that it was owned by hallmark till last year, when it was sold to a conneticut company.

Do you have portrait innovations where you live? I stopped going to kiddie kandids I couldn't handle hanging out in the mall for 2+ hours with the kids waiting for pictures, when the wait was only supposed to be 30 minutes.

Anyway portrait innovations takes appointments and has no sitting fees.

My dh is a professional photographer with his own studio. He is very expensive though.....$100/hour. BUT this is the off season for most photographers. Dh is not terribly busy. We live in a low income area so ofter he barters for services. We have traded everything from diapers to babysitting to canned goods to firewood to haircuts to massages to pet sitting services to CSA shares for family, baby, and senior HS photography. It is often with people he has never met before. They just looked up photographers in the phone book and proposed a deal. Now when someone calls and seems like they cannot afford his rates, he proposes barters. It seems to be pretty common in the industry. You might want to call some wedding photographers and see if they would like to do a trade. Also, I am not sure how common it is, but dh often goes to people's houses for child/family photography since it is easier to get kids at ease and comfortable in their own ome.

My friend was able to get a refund from picture people when they closed the store by us (she bought the membership too, but only had used it 1 time). It was a bit of a hassle, but they eventually gave it to her. It is worth asking for! Oh and I second the recommendation for Portrait Innovations. We've had 2 very good experiences there.
