Hello Mamas;

I'm wondering how you are doing with your infant seats- how many of you have moved to a convertible? If so, what kind did you settle on, where did you install it and what kind of a car do you drive?

I have an older (1996) Subaru Outback and Carl is ready to move from his infant seat to a rearfacing convertible. My dd is also outgrowing her convertible (she's tall- 37'') but I really feel she's too young (and too light- 26lbs) for the booster stuff.

I'd like to move Carl to a rearfacing Roundabout and Cecilia to a forward facing Marathon. But will I still be able to squish between the seats when we fill my little car up?

I want a van.: I can't believe I'm saying that.

Thanks in advance for sharing what you do...

Well, not through through -- I distinctly remember not getting up for my 5 am alarm because he was nursing. So I don't know how frequently he nursed last night, but there was none of that ..."Hi, I'm UP! Let's play!" business at 2 am.

GREAT!!!

I must say, Dov's Mom, that your posts crack me up...

Hi, there, Midwestmeg! I was wondering the same thing...I think DD is getting too big for her Peg Perego Viaggio...I was thinking Marathon...but do we get 2 - one for each car? (DD rides in both and we currently have 2 bases)...I'm not worried about our Honda Pilot...it's big...but I am worried about our tiny ancient Mercedes 190E...

I just ordered a Marathon on the weekend, we'll see how it goes in my 4-door Saturn, but I think there will be enough room. I can't wait to get rid of the bucket!

I think the roundabout is smaller than the Marathon, so if you're worried about space you could go with that one. Also Britax makes a model for Fisher Price, can't remember the name of the seat right now tho, but it's basically the same as the roundabout I think. It's an option for a second car because it's MUCH more affordable. The only problem would be the lower weight limit.

I have a Boulevard for DD, but we haven't yet made the switch. It keeps getting cold and snowy here, and it is easier to keep her bundled in her bucket. Hopefully once spring sets in, we will be moving her into the new one. Since we didn't know what we were having, everything that we got pre-baby was gender neutral. So when I was picking out her carseat, I went for the purple one with flowers! I am so excited to use it.

ok, not sure I have this quote thing down, but anyway, we too are on the mom can't move cycle...ug. I've been wondering if it is a bouncy mattress issue? Anyone with a futon who doesn't have this issue? I really need to figure it out, because I have become sooooo careful about moving in my sleep, but dh is oblivious and moves like an elephant....

You have to make sure the stuff in square brackets (and the brackets themselves) don't get deleted.

We have a really firm mattress, and we weren't having this problem at 3 mos on a hotel-squishy bed... I haven't decided yet if it's that I'm waking up when she's almost awake and so the extra movement just nudges her out of sleep, or if the movement just plain wakes her up. I've tried holding still to see, but usually my hips are hurting so much I have to move .

We ended up getting a Radian 65 for my ds instead of a Marathon because of the fit issue in our Volvo. DD is in a roundabaout as well. It was the only way my older dd could fit in the back, too.

Ds is really too big for his bucket seat. We are going to buy the Boulevard this weekend. We are a one car family currently driving a Honda Civic Hybrid. I love our car but I think it's time for something bigger. I have heard that the Boulevard will only fit in our Civic if we move the front seats forward more. Dh is not crazy about feeling squished in the front seat so I think we are going to trade our car in for a Honda CR-V. I am looking forward to not lugging around ds in his infant seat. He is so heavy!
On another note, ds still cannot roll from his tummy to his back. He rolls all the time from his back to his belly but starts to cry if he is left on his belly for more than a few seconds. Is this something I should be concerned about?

We've got similar issues. MJ has a longer span than just a few seconds when she is awake, but she also is not at all fond of being on her tummy and doesn't know how to roll front to back yet. I keep putting her down for tummy time and she's getting better about hanging out when awake but she also rolls onto her tummy when she's asleep and it wakes her up crying every time.

I don't think it's anything to be worried about. I mean, some babies go front to back and some back to front first and I'm at a loss to know too many babies who loved tummy time from the start.

FINALLY!!

Simi finally rolled over today. An intentional roll, not accidental. Of course, I made a big deal and she got all happy, but I'm sure she has no idea what was so special. I was pretty certain she had the muscle strength, but just had no idea she could do it. And frankly, I'll be surprised if she becomes a regular roller. I had wondered if she was going to skip rolling altogether. She does love sitting, though. She's really into folding herself in half and sucking her toes. I haven't read this entire thread, but it looks like toe-sucking is a popular sport among this group!

As for the carseat, we got her in the Boulevard about two months ago. Our infant seat was a hand-me-down from my SIL and I just didn't like it. BTW, we have a 97 Corolla and the Boulevard fits just fine on the passenger side. Not sure about center placement b/c DH screwed up the middle seatbelt so we can't use it. The front seat is pushed up pretty far, but when we're both in the car one of us sits in back with Simi, anyway.

Twogreencars: Thanks for your post on highchairs. I was wondering what we would do, and now have some general idea.

MidWestMeg: I want a van. I can't believe I'm saying that.

Me too! Me too!! I have a Toyota Corrolla and all the bending to get into the car is getting to my back. That's it - I have officially gone from hip city chick to married, suburban mom!!

This is exactly why I can't cosleep! My hips really hurt! I think it is a byproduct of being pregnant. I got a massage a few weeks ago and that did wonders!

I didn't think you could put infants in the front seat? Is that a state by state thing?

ETA - and congrats to Simi for rolling over.

and thanks for all the car seat info. MJ is getting so big I'm ogingto have to switch to a convertible soon.

Hello Everyone!

Hi Nov. Mamas!

I just convinced DH to take the babe to the store so I finally have a free moment to post, wahoo . I've enjoyed reading about all the Nov. babes and what's going on w/everyone. Ruby (Nov. 19) is doing well. She hasn't rolled over yet and doesn't really seem to be trying, which is fine w/me!! (DD1 was a late roller also if I remember correctly) I like to lay her on the kitchen island for diaper changes and also when I'm cooking on occasion, obv. won't be able to do that when she's rolling all over the place! She's fascinated w/her toes but can't quite get them in her mouth although she tries very hard to do so. She got her first 2 pearly whites last weekend, much to my surprise.

R.e. moving to a bigger car seat, we moved her a couple of wks. ago, not because she had outgrown the bucket but because she HATES being in the car and I thought maybe she would be happier in the bigger seat. Unfortunately that is not the case. I can't bear to hear her screaming while I drive so car trips are short and sweet- thank goodness most everything is very close to our house! One of the few advantages of living in suburbia I suppose.

Thankfully she continues to be a good sleeper at night. Naps, otoh, are hit or miss; she is the Queen of Catnaps! Ah, can't think of anything else at the moment, just savoring every moment w/her since this is most likely our last babe. Glad to hear everyone is doing well! Take care Mamas!

Anyone's baby started panting? I think DD is doing it for the fun of it...but...:
DD just turned 5 months old on Friday, and she is so much fun. While home with me, she will take three short naps. Apparently at the sitter's she does not nap at all. Anyone else experiencing this?

Still no teeth, but she is gnawing on everything like crazy. She also seems very interested in our food, and has begun taking "sips" from my water glass. The sips are more like drools, but it is so cute to see. If I do not offer her sips, she screams and waves her fists.

She just got to the point where she enjoys rolling over. She does get frustrated when the rolling over and over does not get her closer to something that is above her or higher than her reach, but she isn't really interested in crawling.

I love reading about everyone's babies. It is so nice to have this thread.

Magnus actually snorts when he gets excited, it's hilarious.
