Wow, good luck Dov's Mom!! Are there any other November student mamas?

CableGirl, it sounds like side-carring your crib should be a great solution. I hope it works well for you!

Landis has also been doing the panting/loud breathing/gasping thing, although not when about to nurse. He finds it hysterical if DH or I immitate that or any other sound he makes. He will make sounds to have them repeated for hours if one of us will oblige.

Has anyone traveled with their baby yet? We'll be driving 6 hours tomorrow to see my brother graduate from USMC boot camp. (Go little brother!) We're leaving late at night, so hopefully Landis will sleep for most of the trip. He has enjoyed the car much more since I fished out my old Raffi tapes from my parents' house. Did anyone else listen to Raffi as a kid?

Also, Landis and I might be going with DH to California for a conference he will be attending, which would entail a long flight. Has anyone flown with their baby? Did you get a separate seat or did your baby sit in your lap? I'm a little nervous about the trip, especially since we might end up flying separately from DH. In that case he would take all of the luggage, so I would only have DS and his diaper bag to worry about. Even so, it makes me nervous...

We have done so much flying, it's not even funny. When DS was 5 weeks old we flew home to Chicago to visit my parents. During that trip, I took DS down to St. Louis to see DH's grandfather, who wasn't doing well. A month ago we went back to Chicago for Passover, during which DH's GF passed away so we went back to St. Louis for the funeral (he was 92. I am very glad we made the first trip and showed him his GGS. I am also very glad DS will have pictures with his GGF.) Oh, and we also took a 4 hour Greyhound trip when he was 10 weeks old to see my grandmother.

So 8 flights and two long bus rides. No very long flights, though, I'm afraid.

On most of our trips we bought an extra seat for the carseat, but DS spent maybe 20% of the time in it and 80% in my arms. Our last trip they cancelled the flight and didn't have space on the next for his carseat, so we went without it, and, honestly, I think he was just as safe strapped to my chest in a Moby as in the seat. You're worried about flying away in a jolt, not impact, and no matter where he was when we hit turbulence, I could safely stick him back in the Moby whereas with the car seat I was afraid to put him down in it once we hit turbulence because I couldn't hold him and strap him in at the same time. So I don't plan to buy a seat next time.

Hi all! I've snuck in here before, but I think my previous post got lost in the shuffle. My little man, Elijah, was born Nov. 13. He was 8lb. 2oz at birth and is around 15lb. now. He is quite the roly poly guy and a master drooler. No solid food yet. Just lots of "mama milk" , as my 3yr. old calls it. I've enjoyed reading your posts and look forward to more Nov. 06 mama adventures!!

Welcome again.

I should not be on this board. Kick me off, I'm begging you. Some moderator out there take pity on me and suspend my account for two weeks.

Dov's mom - be strong - get outta here! NOW!

Hey - the rest of you - maybe we should IGNORE Dov's mom until she tells us not to...and send her strong studying vibes...

Although Dov's mom - you realise you CANNOT play on any other threads either (I've seen your name rather a lot lately in other threads! )

Thanks so much!! I apologize if I missed his name on the list earlier. I actually hadn't checked it this morning before I wrote my post. Sorry!: And of course, my brain has not been functioning at really any capacity worth mentioning in the past few months. : So who knows maybe you'll see another post from me next week introducing myself.

Another mama here who should be doing school work instead of putting around on mdc!!! Though I am not nearly as advanced as a law degree, I think I am on year 7 of trying to finish my BA..... having two kids and not putting them in daycare that much really makes the completion of a BA take awhile! I think I am nearing the end though, 9 more credits left I think.... I am crossing my fingers for graduating in dec. We'll see... And notneb, I listened to Raffi when I was a kid! I loved him. I still remember the day I decided to not listen to him anymore. On my tenth birthday I decided it was too childish for me... hahahahaha. It cracks me up thinking about it now. On a different note, Talia had a horrendous night last night, she didn't want to be anywhere except the crook of my arm (not nursing, but still, I can't really sleep on my back unless I've already been asleep for a while, and she never gave me a chance to go to sleep....arrrrg!). So. I am contemplating my options. We may move our mattress to the floor, put a single futon next to it, and see how that works out.....

How about a 97th

DS was born on 30th Nov 2006 at 2.30am, weighing 8lb 10 oz. After much debate we called him Alex.

I posed in the Due Date occasionaly but rather lost track when things moved over here.

We are suffering lack of sleep since DS wakes up every couple of hours and DD (2 1/2) has also started waking up and comming to join us in bed. Other than that things are great, DD has adapted pretty well to having a little brother aorund and brings him toys and talks to him in the car. He beam at her and watches her every move.

DS is all about things he can get in his mouth, toys, fingers, toes, my hair. He's not quite sitting yet, still flops over quite a bit. The last couple of days he looks like he going to roll over but he's not done it yet.

Welcome LH!
Good luck, EmilyRose.

I am just on briefly to mention our latest escapades. Dov's first real mess!

I left him on my bed while I went to go sweep up the garbage can I turned over running to get to him at 5 in the morning when I was still up studying and he decided nighttime was over.

He was on his stomach, reaching for the old wipes box turned baby cream container when I turned away, which was fine with me. He's always liked that box because it's red and has animal pictures on it and is good for sucking on. Whatever.

A minute later -- no, less! -- I turn around because I hear some suspicious noises, and Dov is on his back, with the bedsheet pulled off the mattress and around his face, and everything is covered in white gunk. When I look closer, I see he's opened the wipes container (that's one toy fewer for him!) and gotten the Desitin open -- probably by pushing on it with all his weight -- and he is covered. His face, his hands, his shirt, his lips (I'm not thinking about the inside of his mouth), the bed, the sheet -- everything! I got one good picture before washing him off.

And I thought I had until he was mobile before I had to worry about things like that...

I showed my DH (who also should be studying...or FINDING A JOB!!!!) your post - what a sight! Reminds me of the story of me as a 1.5 year old tipping several gallons of white paint ALL OVER MYSELF! I had it in my eyes, ears, mouth - EVERYWHERE....I apparently just toddled off and tipped it over when I was trying to look and see what was in it... ... it probably contained lead, to boot! eeeeeeek!

We've been to Spain, Denver, and the west coast (6+ hours). The last was traveling on my own. I did it with the baby in the sling (mei tai), a diaper backpack (cloth diapers no less - but I'd recommend disposies because you can throw away poopie messes) with my laptop and some toys and the boppy pillow strapped on top. Although the water bottle on the tray seemed to do just fine as a toy.

My rec is if you're traveling on your own pack as little for carry on as possible, otherwise you'll lose it. A stroller might work (you can gate check it) but my dd isn't that fond of the stroller so I went with the sling.

You get one extra piece of luggage with the baby (e.g., a car seat) if you want to use it. Make sure you let the airline know you'll have an infant in your lap when you buy the ticket; they have limited seats w/extra oxygen masks. If they manage to lose your luggage, most rental car companies have car seat rentals, although they kinda suck and I don't know if you can rent one without renting a car, too .

I have taken long car trips and flown with Atticus. When we were in the car, he did a lot of sleeping, playing, and sucking on his paci. We did have to stop to nurse a few times, though. For the plane, he just nursed, sucked on his paci, or played. I did not buy an extra seat, as I didn't really see the need. I had a mei tei for the airport and it was awesome. I highly recommend a baby carrier for longer trips!

haha.. CMG you totally answered my unspoken question. DH and I will be taking MJ to Seattle for the 4th of July to visit my ILs. I've been debating the whole time if I should take our CDs or just make life easier and use 'sposies.

Cloth diapers

Hey everyone. I know a lot of you cloth diaper, and I am considering trying to start this summer when I will be home with DD full time. She will be about 7 months old then. Any ideas on what types are best to start with? I have been reading some of the cloth diaper websites, but there are still so many options. Does anyone here use the BumGenius 2.0's? Do you like all in ones, or pockets or prefolds better? Thanks for any help.

Oh Alright,

One more to add to the November babes I have mostly lurked during my pregnancy and I guess I got the urges needed to write today. My little girl Layla Beyrl Maxwell was born Nov 29th after 33 hour of grusome labor. She was born at home and did not take her first breath until almost 10 minutes went by after she was born (a little scary).

She is however a thriving, non-vaccinated, chiropractic baby (my husband and I are chiropractors. She is surprising me everyday. Today she decided to roll on from her tummy to her back the first and many, many times afterwards. AND, she stood herself up by holding onto the side of our arms-reach co-sleeper - she was sitting on he boppy with me next to her and pulled up...I kid you not. : I still cannot believe that.

You ladies are great. I enjoy the wealth of information you have and plan to post more often.

Here is Layla's website/pictures:

Jill,

I cloth diaper and use Fuzzi Bunz. They are a pocket diaper. DH and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them . . . I even took a pic of them hanging out on the line in the sun the other day because it made me happy. They are soft and come in great colors . . . they dry fast and DS doesn't leak through them much more than in disposables (mostly less--we used both until about a month ago).

angrypixiemama-- we use the BumGenius 2.0s, in addition to many others. They are really great- they work best for us (we have tried Fuzzi Bunz, Happy Heiny, Haute Pockets, and more). We also use prefolds and covers. I am a big fan of the pocket diaper, though. AIOs are okay, but don't tend to be as absorbent, and they take forever to dry. We have one of the BG AIOs, but we much prefer the pockets. I do like prefolds and covers for their simplicity (and price). We definitely use pockets at night .. the layer of fleece or suedecloth stays dry, so even when the diaper is soaked, her bum isn't wet.

We are going on our first trip this weekend.. to the beach, about 3 hours from here. My husband and I are big travelers, so it is odd that we have not been anywhere yet. I think we will make up for that this summer and fall, but for now we just need a little getaway, partly just to get Ingrid used to it. She is not a fan of the car, so we will see how it goes. Actually, she is fine in the car for about 15 minutes, and then she wants out.

Welcome to daffyduck .. how scary about Layla's arrival! I'm glad she is fine. I love her name.
