Dov's mom I love the picture and Yes! he does look very satisfied!

Today Magnus had something in his hand and dh went to take it from him and what did Mr M do he reached out once, twice and the third time put it in dh's hand and let go! I didn't believe dh so I told him to do it again to see if it was a fluke and sure enough he handed it to him once more.

They are learning so fast now it's crazy! Oh and by the way I was due on the 8th and Magnus missed being born on his due date by 2 hours. He was born at 2:04 am on the 9th! He could have been the 8th!

I vote for keeping the discussion in this thread.

For what it's worth, you can add us to the baby-led eating crew, though I don't know if we quite qualify because in theory baby-led would mean baby-led would mean I would have let him eat the food he's been grabbing off my plate for the last month or 6 weeks.

Though I guess we are baby-led eaters if you consider what Dov has been eating...one bite of apple, some desitin, the liquid out of a baby wipe (picture a mesh feeder type thing ), and lots and lots of paper of all sorts. I don't know any parents who would dictate that particular diet, do you?

Let's see...Yesterday DD had celery for its teething analgesic properties (what a face she made!) and she's experimented with paper/cardboard...that's it...and she's tried to eat her big toe...but it's still there!

Ok, I'm at the various "foods" some babies have eaten so far. Aaron has eaten his onesie, my hands/arms, DH's fingers... Oh, and he's also had banana, cantaloupe, and apple. I just give him "real food" every 2-3 days right now.

I did hold off on letting him try the chicken thigh I was eating, although he tried his best to pull my arm close enough for him to eat it. DH is smoking some countrystyle ribs tomorrow, and I might just let the boy gnaw on one... if he can get it away from me.

Yum yum - can I have a smoked rib, too? My DH is making a crock pot of feijada (Brazilian bean dish)...and the smells are wafting into this room...

Back to food - how have you given DS the banana, cantaloupe and apple??

Oooh.. w hat's the story with the celery. I've never heard of that. how big a piece do you give? Presumably something large enough to hold and not swallow?

Atticus has tried oatmeal and banana. He hates banana. He made the most repulsived face when I try to give it to him.

teething and celery thread from yesterday...

We gave DD a whole stalk but I think the cut was at too great (or is that too small?? : ) an angle b/c it was hard for her to get anything but its very very pointed end in her mouth...better to cut it very slightly diagonally IMO...

Hands off my ribs! DH calls them "Vera style ribs", because I like them so much. And I'm a REALLY picky eater.

Neat! My Bosco is a 7 year old German Shepherd. His registered name is Bosconian vom Grunenfeld, Bosconian being an old arcade game (and we have one out in the garage).

Back to food - how have you given DS the banana, cantaloupe and apple??

First banana was just whole. He gnawed on it and got small enough bits off to swallow (I know this because I saw it in the output... gotta love banana poop!). He's also had that mashed with a fork. The Cantaloupe was also whole, and he really didn't get bits off that - just the juice. But he enjoyed it. And the apple was pureed into applesauce. I have little apple cubes in my freezer now. Gotta replace the 14 bags of food cubes I threw out while pregnant with Aaron... food cubes that were 2 years old.

Oops - was going to say I like the idea of baby-led feeding. But we may be awhile because DD doesn't put anything in her mouth, except on the rare occasion that a blanket ends up still in her hand when she puts her hand in her mouth. She's got an incredibly strong tongue thrust reflex.

I'm really interested in this g-diaper thing. Do you use them? What do you think of them? Right now we exclusively use FBs and BGs. How are they at absorbancy? I really like the idea of environmentally friendly "disposables".

twogreencars, I may have to try this celery thing. I clicked on the link for the thread, and it makes sense. I do feel that numb, slightly tingly feeling when I eat celery.

DD has tasted avocado and banana. I just mashed it up and we played with it. I put some on my finger and let her taste it (and ate some myself ) She made faces at the avocado and seemed to like the banana more. BTW,she puts absolutely everything in her mouth. We are just playing with food now. I think she has eaten like 4 teaspoons of "food" total.

Hi Mamas my dd was born on 11/27/06 she is 16 lbs. 1 oz.

She was born a bit early due to my full previa and in some ways she is ahead of the mark in others slightly behind. We co-sleep, ebf on cue, do mommy & me yoga and use RIE techniques. Her ped is Dr. Jay Gordon and we as of not are anti-vax but will do the chickenpox vax if I can't help her get it naturally as a child.

today my child-led feeding child snatched my bottle of water and guzzled it happily...I was really surprised she drank that much. Tried banana just gumming it but she didn't like it much. much to my horror she's had peanut butter and jelly since my toddler had it all over his hands and played with a small toy that she got ahold of and licked the entire thing clean!
