Correlation between vomitting and labor?

I know vomitting is common during labor but when is it common? I threw up my breakfast this morning and now my body is working on my banana. I didn't think you threw up much before labor/beginning of labor. I thought it was more during active labor. Let me know!

In my experience with clients, its usually about an hour or less before they begin pushing. In my own experience, it's around transition.

However, I did wake up puking last week and it was a really nasty 24 hour virus.

I hope you feel better.

I heard somebody say that when a woman throws up, she's usually "four or fully" - 4 cm or 10 cm dilated. For me, during both my labors I threw up several times at 4-5 cm. After that I'm fine, no more throwing up.

I've never thrown up in labor, but in my Bradley class they taught that it was most likely you'd throw up just before or during transition. Fortunately, I'm just not a puker.

I hope you're feeling okay.

I did a couple times with each labor, in transition. And I'm not a puker either, normally! My midwife loves to see vomiting (I know!! ) because she says it makes a lot of centimeters disappear. Hth!

In five labors I threw up once and that was right before transition.

With my first I was vomiting pretty much everything from 2 cm until birth (around 24 hours). Even ice chips and popcicles came back up. With the second I threw up once, but it was under two hours total labor, so I didn't have much time to puke. Not something I look forward to with this one.

In 3 labors I only threw up once. It was my first labor and my baby was posterior with a nuchal hand (hand up). I was fully dilated & then I couldn't push him out. So I took a nap. When I woke up from the nap I went back 8 cm. Then, I threw up & did the rest of the work. So, I guess I threw up just about transition for the second time.

I hope you feel better soon, OP!

I puked all through active labor. And man it felt GOOD! I would eat (usually a bannana) in a little while I would puke, then eat, then puke.

I was in labor for 51 hours. It was rough. The puking helped channel the energy a little. It's hard to fight your body's energy when puking. In hindsight it may have helped me to stop fighting the contraction.

I threw up 2+ times weekly throughout my pg (sometimes more), and vomitted before I left for the birth center and then after getting settled in, probably from 3-4cm until 6-7cm. Not constantly, but every so often.

This was true for me during my first labor as well. I got to the hospital dilated at about 4 cm, got changed into a gown, and immediately threw up my dinner and had my water break on its own. So I got to change into another gown. One hour later, I was at 10 cm and ready to push him out.

With my second child, I did not throw up at all, even though I had pizza for dinner that evening (she was born at 1:27 AM).

Good luck to you!

I puked around the 4cm mark. I woke up at 430am with contrax- had breakfast at 6am and it all came up at 7am. He was born at 12:30pm. It all happened so fast!

I threw up with my first from severe pain, about hour 2 of 4 into the pushing process, malposition, pitocin and an epidural that didn't work right.

I didn't with my second, completely natural, positioning has a lot to do with how much pain felt, at least it did for me.

I did get really nauseous in the last month of both pregnancies, I think it's from the stomach getting so squished, plus I had morning sickness on and off throughout both pregnancies anyways.

I didn't throw up with my first labor... but it was induced, epiduraled, and ended in c-section.

My second birth though... I threw up while changing positions during pushing. I went from being on a birthing stool to hands and knees and the movement of everything turned my stomach and I said "somebody get a bucket!!!!". I puked that one time, but that's all. It actually felt pretty good to get it out and I usually can't stand puking!

First off, I have to say that I am not normally a "puker". LOL. I was about 4 cm dilated (was for a few weeks) when labor started at about 10 pm. I wouldn't say it was active until about 2 am and that's when I started puking. I couldn't keep anything down until he was out. That was a bit rough since it was a 17 hour labor! I only tried to eat one other time (after the 2 am puke) and it came right back up. I hope to heaven it's different this next time around!

With both of my labors I vomited in transition. DS#1 was in a hospital with an epi, no food or water allowed, so I thought that was why. But DS#2 was all natural in a free standing birth center and the same thing happened.

i had really bed hyperemesis until 22 weeks, and did not throw up at all during labor.

I had hyperemesis in Pregnancy #1 but didn't vomit during labor during either births. After my second birth I did throw up my first attempt at a meal.

My OB checked me for the first time and shared that I was about 8cm....then I puked...right after that he said, "ok, now you've got to be 9". Evidently I had a very strenuous vomit...enough to make me dilate! hmmm...

My friend who I just helped was a puker. She pretty much did it whenever. I did only before transition.
