shooting nipple pain?

The past few days I've had occasional shooting pain in my nipple into my breast. Has anyone experienced this? I'm 18 weeks pregnant, so not sure whether it has anything to do with expanding breasts/stretching tissue, or if this is something else altogether. Any ideas?

I had this and from what I understood it was just the nerves and tissue in there getting ready for nursing. Not sure if that's it but it sure could be uncomfortable sometimes. It's a bit better now but occasionally I get "twinges" in there still.

oh yeah shooting nipple pain here as well! it's normal but dosnt make it any less sucky

I definitely have that pain too. Not sure what it is but I've gotten it before I was pregnant too. I always attributed it to some kind of spasm but now it really goes right into the nipple so I'm sure it has something to do with prep for nursing. ?? I'm not a wealth of info but at least you know you're not alone!

Are you still nursing? If so, a sharp shooting pain on the inside that is w/o nipple pain could be forceful let-down or maybe mastitis.

No, I haven't nursed in over 2 years.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. I'd never had this with my previous pregnancies.

I'm glad to read this..this is my first pregnancy...but i have had this a lot and it was a little scary. Glad to know it's "normal"

OUCH! I get it too. I usually press my hand against my breast until it stops (like stopping a let down now that I read that in a PP.) Sometimes I get it from sleeping on a breast.

DD had a big long cry on my lap after bumping her head last night. About a minute later I had to very ouchy breasts and realized she triggered a let down but there was nothing there . She still nurses once or twice a day but it's been a looooong time since I have felt a let down, like 2 years. It was so strange/cool to realize my body was getting back into the groove of nursing a newborn.
