How can I get CLO stink out of clothing???

My daughter puked randomly a few weeks ago. She had a pretty random breakfast, including porridge, chopped kale in a frozen cube (that she gnawed until it was gone), the end of a gallon of raw milk (that was kind of going but not really BAD), and a teaspoon of cod liver oil. I think there was more stuff, but I can't remember anymore. I gave her the CLO and then felt bad about her ending breakfast on that note, so I urged her to drink her (previously untouched) milk. She drank it down, then about an hour later she puked. Then puked again, then again.

Once she had emptied out, she seemed fine and ate well, had no more problems. It seemed truly random.

So anyway, I don't know what caused the puking, but I haven't been able to get the smell of the cod liver oil out of the clothes she was wearing at the time. What can I do???

I'd love to use her shirt and leggings again without the lingering fishy smell. It's pretty heavy, despite multiple washings and spraying. (I've used mostly Bi-O-Kleen and Bac-Out. I think I also tried a solution of Shaklee Basic-I and water. Some vinegar in the rinse.) Should I be soaking? Using something special for oil? Any suggestions at all???

Thanks!

Oh wow I hope you get a good answer because I'd sure like to know too!

There have actually been a couple threads about this in the diapering forum. I've tried pretty much everything suggested and haven't had much luck yet (soaking, vinegar, bleach, dawn, etc. etc.).

The only thing so far that has made a dent is some stuff called "Citra Solv" I found at Whole Foods. A few of ds2's shirts are now stink free after the citra solv but there's some die hard fish stink in four of them. I just sprayed them with Febreze (not crunchy I know, but hey it's worth a shot). I'll sniff them in the morning. Then I guess I try the citra solv again.

Fish stench is pH basic, so try soaking normal fabrics, NOT special fabrics, in full strength vinegar (even heating it would be great) and even adding lemon juice (it's the reason why people squeeze lemon juice on seafood before eating - it cuts the fishy smell), and letting that soak overnight until cleaning.

Launder as usual.
