Hey everyone, I'm finally getting online! (No computer access at home, bummer!).
Ian is so sweet; I am so blessed.
Today he is 6 lbs even!
The birth was good, even though nothing like I'd hoped. My water broke on my birthday (wow!) at 10 minutes to midnight, 5 weeks early. So I called the midwives and they sent over the apprentice to listen to heart tones with the doppler. While we were listening to it plug along at 140 bpm, it dropped to 80 - so off to the hospital we went

Luckily, my new OB (whom I'd never met before, LOL) was all for as natural a birth as possible, so I labored for 20 hours (most docs would have sectioned me almost immediately). At 20 hours, I'd been awake for 36, and was getting tired. My midwives (MW & apprentice) were with me (and stayed with me the entire time) and the MW suggested I have an epidural (not her usual recommendation) in case the babe wasn't going to tolerate pushing stages of labor well because 1) the doctors were talking and were pretty sure he'd be a c-section and that way I could be awake and have SOME bonding time and 2) if I didn't, it would be a classical c-section, vertical incision, no chance of VBAC and I'd be unconcious for hours without seeing him. So I did it and frankly, it was wonderful - a very light epi, I could feel everything, it was perfectly performed. It allowed me to snooze for 1/2 hour and relax and then things started happening. ... I went from 3cm at 21 hours to 4.5 cm in half an hour, from 4.5 cm to 6 in another half hour and then I went from 6cm to 10cm in 15 minutes... I pushed for an hour and there he was!

My blond little boy

And little he was - all of 4 lbs 15 oz. He had to stay an extra day in the hospital because he is jaundiced, and we are still working on getting rid of it, but he's home and all is going very well. I'm loving being Mom

Talk to you all later!
