Just wanted to let you know my mom called on her way to mass. She said she hopes you are all doing OK and she is going to ask the mass be dedicated to Lena.

You both will be in my thoughts and prayers! I am glad you stood your ground about the formula! Hang in there!

UPDATE!! Lena is doing a bit better. SHe is no longer under the light and I am feeding her often, now one of the problems is is that my milk isn't in all the way yet...if I pump I get only a few drops. I am now on Reglan to get my supply up. I think the Ped is a bit frusterated that I refuse to let her have formula and that I am not giving up on BF!!! Lena's Electrolites are still off and she still hasn't pooped since saturday. They tried to give her a supository yesterday but she just pushed it out. Any ideas on how to get a week old baby to poo? Other than feeding that is because we are doing that constantly! well we did yesterday but now we are feeding about every 2 hours. well that is my update!

Just remember that pumping dosnt give a accurate picture of how much milk you have. I was never able to pump well and I had a oversupply.

I am glad she is doing better. My dd developed jaundice within a hour of birth she had to be under the lights for 2 days 24/7 even when they brought her to me to nurse she was wrapped in a bili blanket. I did let them give her formula but only after I nursed her. I feel very lucky thta she didnt get nipple confusion between the bottle feeds and the paci they gave her while she was under the lights because she wouldnt quiet crying.

That's great to hear!!
Although I've heard scary stuff about Reglan, can't you take Domperidone instead?? I was on Dom with Liam for more than a year and I saw immediate results in my milk supply.

Anyways, hang in there, you know what's best for your baby, don't let the hospital bully you!!

About the pooping.....I could always get my babies to poop, by taking a rectal temparture.
Just take the thermometer, put some vaseline on it and take the temp as you normally would.
My babies always pooped withing minutes of taking it. Hope that helps.
Glad to hear she is doing better. My DD is 2 weeks old and her levels are still lingering at 15. I really dont want to do formula, but I might have to to keep her out of the hospital again.
Keep us posted.

Good to hear she's doing better! I agree with a pp that pumping doesn't necessarily dictate how much milk you're making. I never responded well to the pump, I only ever got a tiny bit, and yet ds nursed really well and got more than enough. I just don't think pumps are nearly as effective or efficient as a baby's mouth, although of course they're totally helpful for things like this. Keep going! Don't give in on the formula, you're doing great!!

: I also think the temp taking might do the trick or even letting her go bare bottomed for a bit that always worked for me!

Also...

You are doing a wonderful job! Lena is soooo lucky to have a Momma who is willing to fight for the best for her girl. You should not have to deal with crappy nurses and peds who don't take the time to research the benefits of BF'ing. If this country wasn't so bassackards you'd be able to get a prescriptioin for the local milk bank... and it sucks that you can't. You shouldn't be babymooning in the hospital to begin with... you shouldn't be struggling to bf and worrying about supply while your coworkers are ep'ing by choice because they just don't like bf'ing...you shouldn't have to stress about house showings and taking care of the dogs while your newborn is in the hospital... you shouldn't be recovering from second degree tears in a fold out chair-bed in a tiny box of a hospital room... you shouldn't be dealing with stupid phone calls from idiotic people who don't have a clue...

But you are dealing with all of that. And it makes my heart break for you and brings tears to my eyes every time I think about the enormity of it all and only one thing makes it ok...

The fact that your beautiful girl is still here with you, and blessed with a mom that cares so much for her and father that is so supportive. Your family is beautiful, and you are so strong.

Stay strong Bobbi. Don't let this get you down. Later on we can cry together about it if you want. Just look at your beautiful babe and relax... you know you are doing everything in your power to help and what you can't control you just can't control. Serenity prayer style.

UPDATE!

Mom and baby were doing well when I saw them on Friday. She has some donor milk she's using so that's great for them. They should be coming home today so hopefully she'll update later. I took her some Mother's milk tea (and got some for me too), so here's hoping it helps us both! She's just a doll btw, so little and just beautiful hair!
