It worked!
I am so excited and proud!

I brewed my own SCOBY following xenabtye's suggestions. It is nice and thick. I am honestly amazed!

Now I am awaiting my first batch of Kombucha! I hope it is good. I have wanted to brew my own but I don't know anyone else who does. I wanted to try it by myself before I ordered one.

I have been lurking here and have learned soooo much. There is so much wisdom and experience on this forum.

Where are those instructions? I have a scoby, but I've been known to kill them.

I have this thread bookmarked, I think there are instructions in it:

I bookmarked it too!
I did do a few things a bit differently (I am not so good with following instructions but I am trying)
I looked at GT's bottled Kombucha for big floating chunks and strands. At my HFS, they only carried the flavored kind so that is what I used. I drank about half of each bottle then dumped the second half with all the floaters into my "mother vessel" along with tea and the sugar. I accidenly used a bit too much sugar and I have yet to know if this will affect my SCOBY's abillity to perform. It set for about 16 days before it looked thick enough to call it done.
My DS#1 called it my "alien science mushroom"! I love experimenting!
Good luck and have faith!

"alien science mushroom"

You guys are making me want to brew it but I'm waiting until DD starts on solids as her major source of nutrition. (So, a few years?
