We buy a lot of our groceries at our co-op. We LOVE it.

I voted $500-600. This includes dogfood, toothpaste, wipes and other non-food items. We're a fam of 4. Very picky eaters. I try to have a good variety bcause of this. I also by about 25%-35% organic.

I think maybe there's a word missing - my brain read it as "we only eat MEAT at dinner". Not sure why my brain automatically jumped tp that, maybe cause fruits and veggies are mentioned in the next sentence?

we typically spend about $400/month. I made a big point to go off of a menu and use coupons and saved $26 this shopping trip (i shop for 2 weeks at a time) and spent $146 its an improvement! now if i can knock it down another 50 bucks every 2 weeks i'll be happy.

We spend about $450-500 per month on food for our family of 5 (a 4 year old, a 2 year old, and a baby who is still 95% breastfed, and 2 adults)... I think its outrageous!
Probably $200-$300 per month for food for 2 adults,7 year old child, 3 cats, 1 dog (raw fed) and 1 fish.
We shop at a regular store. We don't generally buy organic foods. We buy quite a bit of meat. We try not to buy many convenience foods and do not eat out often. We don't use coupons but do buy store brands when we can.

My goal right now is to get it down to 400 but its probably closer to 500 right now. We have 2 adults, 10 yo, 7 yo and 8 month old. Plus a dog and 2 cats. We don't eat a lot of meat, try to buy lots of fresh veggies in season. Unfortunately, no dent store or mark down produce here. Food is expensive in this town! I would love to buy organic but can't really afford it. I have been working on buying organic in the dirty dozen.Soon though we will have our own organic veggies from our plot at the community garden.

I don't even want to say how much because I'm afraid you'll kick me off the Frugality Forum. Organic food is killing our budget and we really only do dairy, beef and produce.

Organic can be frugal for reasons other than your grocery bill. It can be about our future, about our children's future and about our health care costs now and later in life. I spend shamelessly on organic and local foods, and that does not make one non-frugal!

I think I voted wrong. I clicked on $200-$300 without reading the post. I spend an average of $250 a month, but that includes everything from our $25 a month eat out budget (once a month we get pizza or something out), dog food, T.P. and all non-food items. I am not sure how much we spend only on food.

Oh okay! I try so hard to be open-minded on MDC and each day I learn about different ways of doing things. I thought maybe this was a new learning opportunity .

No idea right now...I've just started making the switch to all organic (as much as possible), now that DD is eating more food. So, I'm up in the air on this, and am in the process of figuring out the cheapest places to get each organic...I know the grocery is actually cheapest for all natural/no antibiotics/hormones/etc for chickens and milk, but whole foods is cheaper for some fruits/veggies, trader joes for others...and then when sales come, it's up in the air. LOL. I need to get my grocery IQ reset now.

I wish we had a large commissary nearby...they always have the best prices if they stock the item.

I spend about 200 but eat a lot from scratch. Dh loves coke and junk food. DS and DD eat with me, but DS could be persuaded over to the dark side in DH 's footsteps.

Our budget is $250/week for six people. But that's not just groceries, it's also household products, bath products, medicine, etc. The food alone probably rounds out to $700-ish per month.

We make a lot from scratch, buy as 'whole' as possible and most of our meats are bought on sale or manager's markdowns.
