Is this the right place to post this? I figured it was, but I *have* been wrong before
((I copied and pasted this and tried to edit some, but I can't. So it's long, sorry!))I figured I would post my birth story. If anyone doesn't want down and dirty details stop reading! It's ok, I'll wait...........
OK!
Last wednesday after my appointment with my midwife, I was 6 cm dilated, fully effaced and Bodhi was LOW. Like +2 station. Between getting checked that day and um, some activities the night b4, I was starting to have contractions. Nothing too severe and I wasn't timing or anything but I was feeling it. After dinner at my mom and dad's Jason and I went home at about 10 (kids spent the night at my parents) I got a shower and we wnt to bed. After two hours of regular contractions I called my midwife and my mom and everyone came over. I didn't feel like birth was imminent but no one wanted to miss it! After being up all night around 4:30 or so everything just Stopped. It was really frusterating, but I got some sleep and then entered the lovely waiting game of prodromal labor..... I had contractions off and on for the next three days! Usually not enough to really stop what I was doing but I had several times where for an hour or more I would have regular contractions hat made me need to stop, breathe through them and get all sweaty....
So Saturday afternoon my MIL and my kids and I all went out , got fresh air, went garage sale-ing (is that even a word???) had lunch, etc. Dinner at my parents again, kids spent the night again. Went home and had some more *activities* (hubby was actually interested. poor guy. I just was like"hey maybe it'll get this baby out of me!")
Then all night I slept fitfully, sore, achey, slightly crampy, but no real contractions or anything. We had always joked about an April Fool's baby. but at this point I really thought I would go at least until my due date, if not longer. Funny thing is, I accidentally left my phone at mom's and we were trying to think of a way to use that for a (not too mean) April Fools Joke!!!
8:05 ish- Wake up to a *pop* and my water breaking. Jason actually said he heard the pop, and gush. And I woke up saying "Uh oh....." LOL Got right in the shower to rinse off, told Jason to call Ann (midwife) I told him to tell her I wasn't having any contractions yet but that we all knew it would probably go fast (Riley was born 45 minutes after Ann broke my water, and I hit transistion/pushing really fast )
Jason called mom first and told her it was happening and to come on over, she started getting the kids up. Then he had to call her back to get Ann's phone number- out of my phone. She picked up and said "April Fools?" and he said "No! She told me you wouldn't believe me!!! " lol. So he calls Ann and by this time I have had three contractions and the last one made me have to moan to get through it. Ann is asking him to let her talk to me and I said in that nice, exorcist voice "Tell her to get over here. NOW"
8:15ish- Jason has to hel me get out of the shower. I have a contraction and hang on his shoulders to get through it. I get in bed on my side while Jason was dumping the old herbs from the false labor the other night (looking back i am not sure why I worried about that?? I don't think I thought it was going as fast as it was.)
by 8:20 or so I started to feel Bodhi descend. Jason was holing my upper leg up for me and I told him he was coming and he said he didn't see a head or anyhing. I told him "yeah but it's coming!" I wanted him to apply counter pressure to my perineum and of course he had not idea how to do that like Ann would. So I told him how and he did awesome! Over a few contractions I felt Bodhi descend more and more, and Jason kept trying to get up and look for the bulb syringe (during our birthing class Hannah reiterated to Jason and Mom that if they didn't make it in time you don't really worry about gloves or anything, you want to make sure that 1-baby doesn't come out too fast if mama can help it, and 2- Baby's mouth and nose get cleared out as soon as the head is birthed.) So he has one thing in his mind at thins point "Get that bulb syringe!!!" And I am like " get back over here!!!!" LOL
8:30ish Once I felt his head at my perineum, and the lovely ring of fire, it became a bit easier to breathe and soften. My body had starting pushing, I didn't have to do any more, I was mostly breathing to try to push softer nad slower becasue I didn't want to tear. Of course I was still making a ton of noise, but it felt better! Mom and the kids walked in right as his head was crowning, and even though they have watched Riley's birth video their whole lives, it must have been a tad shocking! Riley stood at the foot of the bed with his fingers in his ears. lol Mom reassured them and then they seemed thrilled to be there. A nd then she...... ran around looking for the bulb syringe!
8:05 Bodhi was born! His head came out and his shoulders were angled in such a way that one slid out b4 the other, so he just popped right out! (Soooo different from Riley, who came out like a linebacker, squared shoulders. His shoulders were harder to birth than his head!) More amnio fluid came out with the rest of his body. I was a bit in shock how fast it went!
The widwives made it about 5 minutes after he was born, I birthed the placenta, and after a bit we got into the herbal bath. Anyone who has had a homebirth and has experienced the wonders of an herbal bath right after birth understands when I say that that was the most awesome bath ever. I remembered how wonderful it was after Riley, but man, it was great! Bodhi loved it, and then I stayed in for a few more minutes with hotter water. I got out and he was weighed, measured etc. He was 8 lbs, 1 oz. 20.5 inches long, and 13.5 in head (which is why pushing was easier, my other two had bigger heads!) There were several signs that he was just shy of being term, less than a week early, so I had calculated my edd of April 3rd spot on (Thanks to Charting!!!)
He had a bit of low blood sugar we think, he took a while to get woken up and nursing. The first two days I woke hime up every hour or so and latched him on (not at night, obviously... He wakes plenty on his own!) Late monday my milk started coming in, and by now I have so much from all that nursing at the beginning that I am looking forward to my supply normalizing to his needs!
So, that's it! Well not really, obviously, I could write a book already at all the wonders of the first week. But I am sure you will all hear more as we go. Bodhi is here, and perfect and everybody loves him.
Addison and Riley are quite enamored as well. They are a bit weary I think, from all the excitement of the past, well, week and a half really. Addie was up with me most of the night that first bou of labor and she hasn't really recovered. that and they have been spending the night at Mom and Dad's alot, and I think they miss their normalcy. As fun as sleepovers are, you know how it is being away from your routine that long.
One more little note, on the perfection of how it all worked out...
~Addie and riley were supposed to be at my ex's last weekend, 5th weekend of the month. I guarantee if I had asked for the weekend he would have said no. He forgot he had them! they would have missed it otherwise! We showed up on Friday night and he wasn't there.
~It happened so very fast, but it was after I had taken off for maternity leave, so P wasn't there. It also happened on a Sunday when Jason *was* there. Perfect!
