Has anyone had any spotting at all? I've read that after a BM it can happen, and it did just a teensy bit (I might have missed it if I wasn't looking for it). Just now I was bending over and felt dampness, so I went to the bathroom to check and it's ever so slightly discolored brownish. I'm 5 weeks today.

I've been spotting slightly since friday night. And feeling pretty lousy about it. Not cramping much, but lower back pain and occational sharp abdomen pain. I had the pain with my last pregnancy but not the bleeding. The only time I've previously bled when pregnant was during a m/c and this doesn't feel like that either. This time it started after sex, but if that was ithe cause wouldn't it have stopped by now? I'm feeling stressed but telling myself its normal for now. Hope so!

Of course I've been reading everything I can and talking to everyone I know who has knowledge of this type of thing...what I've seen most often is that bleeding happens quite commonly after sex. Your cervix is engorged with blood so much that even an exam can trigger some bleeding. I checked my cervical position when checking my CM and found it to be VERY low. I'm guessing my BMs caused the spotting...if that's the case, then sex would definitely cause bleeding. Also, a friend of mine told me she bled so much in early pregnancy that she thought there was no way her boy would be okay...she's due in two weeks. He's fine, so is she.
I have had a dull lower back ache for a few days, slight spotting...I'm starting to think this is all normal. Oh, forgot to mention, yesterday after a BM I actually saw more reddish than brown. It has stopped since then...no spotting at all today.
Is your spotting brown or red? If you had sex Friday night, you could easily still have spotting today, especially if it's brown. Do you have an appt with a care provider?

The spotting is definitely brownish red. I can't decide whether it'd be worth it to see anyone about it. I haven't settled on a midwife yet, we relocated just this fall. There is a nice ob I could go to for this, but I'm not sure. We are mostly self-pay for office visits, so I hate to go spend a lot of money to have someone tell me it too early to know anything yet. I had similar sypmtoms in my last pregancy (minus the spotting), went to the Dr, and had an ultrasound only to have them tell me, "you're probably pregnant, its probably not ectopic, but we can't see anything on ultrasound at 5 weeks." I'd hate to fork over all that $$$ for THOSE answers again. Although I'd gladly dish it out for postitive reasurrance.
So i think I'll wait and see how things go the next couple of days. If not for the previous m/c I'd probably not be as stressed. And for some reason I've always worried about ectopic pregnancies--no reason why--I always just wonder if that is happening. Maybe because I tend to have a lot of abdominal pain the first few weeks.

With my first pregnancy I went from one spot at bedtime to miscarrying in the morning. Second pregnancy brown mucousy spotting at eight weeks for about three-four days and everything was fine.

Okay, I got my numbers back today. I went ahead and had my friend get my bloodwork done STAT this morning. My hcg rose from 255 to 2258, but as suspected my progesterone dropped from 15.3 to 9.5. I am SO angry that the doc didn't listen to me when I told him I had a progesterone problem. They called in prescription for progesterone this evening and I started it just now...I just REALLY hope it isn't too late. I'm 5w3d...

I had some spotting that turned into bright red bleeding. So far everything looks good and I'm as sick as a dog, so I think I'm ok. When they did the u/s after the bleeding, they said I have a subchorionic hemorrhage and that may cause me to bleed again, too.
hang in there.
hang in there.

Oh I would be so angry as well!
How far was it from your first bloodwork to your second?

There were 5 days between tests. The hcg is awesome...right on track. Damn progesterone, I just KNEW it.
If you really want more detail, here's a link to my blog.

I'm really trying to remain calm about this and hope it isn't too late to save this baby. I have visions of my uterine lining breaking down as a result from the progesterone dropping, and that's where the brown spotting is coming from. I hope I'm wrong, or at least that I can still keep it hanging on. The good thing is that the hcg is rising well, and I'm starting to feel more pregnant with slight waves a nausea and uncertainty when I eat.

Since you can't get prescription progesterone why not get some wild yam cream in the interum. . .and some better mental visualizations
like maybe the baby is burrowing so deeply right now that it's causing some extra endometrial material to be kicked aside. It's not doing your body a favor to picture your uterine lining sloughing off.

I know how much you want this. I'm cheering your little trophoblast(or whatever he is at this stage) on!

Hi,
Thanks for the advice Laura...I had some bonding time with the babe today, trying some good visualizations.
Chris has been all over me about it.
Funny you should mention Wild Yam cream...I've also been taking two capsules a day.
Um, how am I doing? Despite the lovely progesterone capsules in my special place twice daily (I'm a teacher too, and I discovered today that it's hard to sit all day), I'm doing well. I don't think I'm spotting anymore, although it's hard to tell with this stuff. But I'm pretty sure it has stopped.
I spoke to my old RE and they are going to take care of me. I'm having more blood drawn on Thursday morning to check the progesterone levels, and of course I'll ask for another hcg. If it isn't closer to 20, my RE will call in a script for PIO. Fun stuff....but better than suppositories.
Other than the blood draw, my next appointment is on the 16th and I'd really like to request an u/s to check for the heartbeat...just to put my mind at ease. Thanks for asking!
How are you? How is everyone else?

Laura - I did get the progesterone script...started it Monday night. I'm quite sure that's why the spotting stopped cause there was still some mixed in with the meds the next day (I'm taking it vaginally, if you hadn't caught on).
But now, there is DEFINITELY no spotting. It's all medicine I find. Yuck...
I go in for another blood test in the morning to check hcg and progesterone. If it isn't closer to 20, my old doc will switch me to injections. Then, Monday I'm hoping for an u/s to see if he's still hanging on. He's definitely trying!!

I had some spotting / bleeding with baby #4. It was heavy-ish and I truly thought I was miscarrying. My midwife said it happens sometimes and no biggie. I have a healthy and wild 2yo to prove
