How is this for annoying?

My employer calls me and tells me that I have a five day waiting period for materinity leave (handled through short-term disability) because... get this... I didn't stay overnight in a hospital! So because I had my baby in a free-standing birth center I lose a week of pay? Blah. I saved them the cost of the hospital, too. What a joke. I'm going to see if I can fight it - it feels discriminating!

Yeah, I was really annoyed last time to find that despite saying they would cover a midwife and birthing center, it didnt, not really. They pay the hospital and OB at 100% but the midwife and birthing center? HA, I think they paid a grand total of like $200 leaving us stuck with thousdands. They paid what was "customary and usual" or some such crap.

My STD insurance has a two week waiting period no matter what and they only cover six weeks (so minus the wait, only four) because six weeks is the medically necesary time for recovery. Im just sitting on my duff eating bonbons the other six weeks I guess!

I had to use accrued time for the week wait too (sick and vacation days) maybe its different state by state, but in NY there is a week wait for short term disability to kick in no matter what the circumstance.

I guess what annoyed me was that it was different only because I didn't give birth in a hospital. A co-worker gave birth a few months ago in a hospital and got the full six weeks of disability.
