so where are you birthing, and with who - Page 2

Hospital birthing center with CNM. I hemorrhage a bit after delivery, feel safer if at a hospital. I'll wait until the last minute though, the hospital is right down the street.

With our first we planned a birth center birth but transferred to the hospital and their CNM. It was still a great birth though-that hospital is very supportive of natural, low intervention childbirth. And I have to admit, I kind of liked staying overnight and having someone bring me food, etc

This time though, I don't think our insurance will cover that hospital because they are a co-op and none of the other hospitals have near the reputation or low c-section rate that that one does. Plus I still love my licensed midwives from the birth center. So we will either do a home birth or birth center birth with them.

We're going for our dream homebirth, possibly a water birth, for the first time.

We're meeting the mw this Friday and I think she's going to be wonderful She sure sounded wonderful and excited. I HOPE she's everything we need her to be.

I don't think we'll be using a doula as I think the mw was or is one and should be fine. We'll see what she says. I don't mind having one. My mom plans to be in town, but I will most likely kick her out or send her to another room. Who knows.

My kids... if they're around, they may be involved too. I am leaving the option open. I would love for them to see, but also want them to take only what they can handle as little boys who don't want to see their mama in pain.

Our insurance should cover this, but if it doesn't, we'll be paying out of pocket. We figure the amount of money we'll have to pay the hospital and doctors after our deductable will match the $2,000 - $4,000 a midwife would cost us.

I am adamant about NO hospital unless something forces us to use that option out of our control.

we're birthing at home with a midwife, barring any unforseen complications. hopefully with the same doula as last time, if she's available. my son attended my dd's birth, and i'm hoping they will both attend this babe's birth!

first was an attempted homebirth/hospital transfer, and second was a beautiful homebirth.. hoping to repeat that experience!

We're planning a homebirth with an awesome midwife. This will be our first homebirth! Our other two were born naturally in the hospital with a Family Practitioner.

I am having a homebirth with the same midwife who delivered my 13 month old son. I am excited to start having appointments with her again!

Last time I lived in a little cabin. The birth pool was in our bathroom, the only place it would fit, so our midwife had to walk to the barn bathroom when she needed to go.
Now we are in a bigger home and it will be easier, but I will miss the small close rusticness of my sons birth.

My OB helped his wife birth his third at home. Buried the placenta under a tree and is prepared to let my husband catch so I'm very happy with him. When he did my section before we got to the OR he said-I will do a low transverse so you can have your next one vaginally.
sounds awsome

We're planning a home waterbirth w/ a midwife just like I had w/ DD.

I had DS in a hospital w/ an OB the first time and SWORE it would never happen again. DD's birth couldn't have gone any smoother and been any more *perfect*. We're praying for another easy birth.

My problem seems to be the first 2 days PP. W/ DS, I developed a blood infection from an untreated UTI and was hospitalized for an extra 3 days on IV antibiotics. W/ DD, I had retained placenta turned uterine infection and had to go to the ER and have an emergency D and C along w/ hospitalization for 3 days. I also had a slight UTI and had to be on IV antibiotics for both infections.

This time, we're taking preventative measures for the UTIs and hoping for no retained placenta or uterine infection.

FWIW~ We live in an apartment and are having a homebirth here. I'm sure there will be neighbors wondering about the commotion coming from our apt, but I really don't care and birthing at home is completely legal.

Birthing center attached to the hospital with my CNMW.

Not sure if I want the waterbirth/waterlabor option...since I've never gone through this yet, I'm really not sure what the differences are. I'll bring it up with my CNMW today!

The difference between a waterlabor and a waterbirth is this:

Waterlabor: labor in the water, use the water as pain management, but ultimately, give birth and deliver OUTSIDE the water.

Waterbirth: give birth IN the water.

Many women find water to be extremely comforting for them during labor. Warm water tends to help with the pain of contractions by relaxing you. There are some women (my best friend for one) who cannot labor too long in water b/c it impedes their labor. The water is so relaxing, it stalls labor. For my friend, she said she imagines that what she feels when laboring in water is probably what an epidural feels like (neither of us have ever had an epi). She basically becomes so relaxed from the waist down that she loses all muscle control. She isn't able to *push* in the water b/c she can't feel the muscles engage.

I HONESTLY think I will have another c-section.....either way I will be at a hospital with an OB....I am going to discuss VBAC but my state is pretty rigid on them...I have been discussing it with a doula in the area and it looks as though homebirth is my best route for a VBAC (I had 3 previous c-sections) and I am simply not comfortable with that since my second child was 5.5 weeks premature and not breathing when she came out as well as my third child being 3.5 weeks early and had a NICU stay as well.....IT SUCKS because I am scared literally of BOTH vaginal birth AND the surgery...I mean who wants to go thru a c-section for the FOURTH time? I keep telling myhusband I wish I could just will this baby out or rewind time to when my first daughter was born and demand better care from my c-section happy OB....I truly feel robbed.....its very hard for me.....sorry this probably belongs in the c-section thread....

I know we both know what it's like to be conflicted about this from a previous thread. Try to stay positive, mama. I know it's so hard. PM if you want to talk about it.

My midwife says she had a successful homebirth with a mom who had three c-sections before.

But if you're worried about the baby itself, then try to find some peace with whatever choice you make. It's not your fault.

I feel robbed by my first c-section and my last son's birth with a &$@! doctor and hospital. While I haven't had three cesereans and I am going for a homebirth as I don't have a reason not to, I feel for you!!!!!!

Hospital birth, OB. Although I'm quite hopeful because this OB is highly reccommended by the ladies here at MDC, so we'll see how it goes!

Homebirth with a MW. Hopefully a waterbirth this time. Same MW who was there for ds.

natural birth at hospital with my OB.. we were succesful in this endeavor with DS #2 at same hospital and same practice so expecting same again.. I am very lucky that even in the PharmBelt we live in we got total respect of our completely natural ways, honestly, none of it was even an issue including no vax or eye ointment etc.. We even got a couple "good for you's" from some of the nurses (on the sly, of course!)

I strongly wanted a HB with last one and this one too but DH is totally not on board with this so that is not an option, although as fast as I went with DS #2 (under 2 hrs total and about 40 mins at hospital) that I just *might* end up with a car birth!! who knows!

We are so strong in our convictions that it seems none of the health practitioners we come in contact with have ever balked or given us a hard time whatsoever regarding no vax etc.. it is weird when I hear the freakish battles and ejections from ped ofcs other moms have gotten??? I don't get it? anyway, sorry, took a tangent there..
