school mandatory age?

i know theres a mandatory of doing SOEMTHIGN at 6..but my county says for my state it is 5 beore sept something or other. i dont see how they can do this?

not that i have a 5yo, but....geeez.
and they have to approve if youre allowed to not go to school in classes somewhere, whether its public or private in my county. HOW is this fair and okay? i honestly dont get it! other than the government wanting that uch more control over our kids...

in TX it's compulsory schooling age between the date a kid reaches his 6th b-day and the date he turns 17. However, if a kid turns 5 before September 1st, then they are legally of minimum age to attend kindy. If he turns 5 in July, then he can legally go to kindy that year, but he won't have to (either register for school OR start homeschol records as per your state's law) until he reaches 6, which won't be til the next school year starts. clear as mud??

Under current law, kindergarten attendance is mandatory for all children who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2007.

and yeah my mom has to get permission to homeschool my brother every year (hes 8) and have all kinds of stupid proof that hes learning, etc

have you looked up your state law directly? I'd be happy to help if you share your state......It's possible that quote was taken out of context.....(for example, perhaps the author was trying to share that KINDERGARTEN is a mandatory year of school, when in the psast, it was optional, etc, etc) ..At this point, i beleve homeschooling is legal in all 50 states, although some make you jump through a lot more hoops than others.....sounds like you're in a "hoops" state.

Each state has a compulsory education age, at which age each child must be enrolled in school or otherwise caused to be educated (different states have different laws about what that means). In your state, it seems that the compulsory education age is five.
