How can I tell if I have a yeast infection?

I know, tmi, sorry. But I'm really trying to avoid yeast this pg. So I've got some clear strong smelling discharge. Anything to worry about or am I being paranoid?

Smelly and watery (I think) is more commonly associated with bacterial vaginitis, esp after sex. Is there a mw/doc you can call?

I saw this on the recent post list, so stoping in from July DDC. I've had an awful time down below this pregnancy. I've had alternating yeast and bacterial vaginosis, and they are really hard to tell apart, especially if you've neve had bacterial vaginosis before (I hadn't). I'd recommend getting swabbed to check to see which one it is so you can get on the road to getting better asap. Most recently, I had them both at the same time. Grrr!

I've had both and if I remember correctly (it's been awhile since I've had BV) they both cause quite a bit of itchiness. I've never had classic symptoms for the yeast, but I've had it plenty of times. I think loading up on probiotics would help either way, but if it's really bothering you, you may want to ask your mw/dr at your next appt. I've had really strong smelling discharge since I got pregnant this time, but it hasn't caused any itchiness and my discharge looks normal so I'm not worrying about it. I know my nose is more sensitive than normal and since dh doesn't seem to notice or care, I figure it's just me.

for yeast: very low glycemic index diet, nothing with yeast or "mold" in it like cheese or mushrooms (fungus) or anything fermented, try Dr Crooks (or is it Cook?) book The Yeast Connection for Women, it is awesome, also TONS of mixed probiotics

for bacterial vag, I am not sure while PG but diluted povidine iodine douche worked wonders for me non PG but I expect any douching is contra PG.. sorry, no other toughts there

Yes, Probiotics! You can also slather PLAIN yogurt on for some relief.

Probitoics for everyone!

Thanks for the replies. I've never even heard of bacterial vaginitis. Something to look into, because I do notice it more after sex. But yes, I am on the road paved with probiotics this pg.

I had it bad with my last pregnancy...had it for 2 months and the dr's office was saying "It's not yeast..it's not yeast" and finally they came around and confirmed it. That was round 1 of 3

I take probiotics 2-3 times a day now, and my mw suggested doing an apple cider vinegar/water rinse (like with a peri bottle) after using the potty. I can't take the vinegar smell, so I'm just sticking with the probiotic right now.
