Magazine subscriptions for 11 year old girl

Any ideas on what type of magazine an 11 year old girl would like? I want to order something for my niece for her birthday.

I think New Moon would be perfect for her. It's intelligent and not filled with junk to make her feel insecure about herself and body.

What about a craft magazine? Is she interested in any crafts in particular?

New Moon is fantastic! I came across it wile eating at a local small restaurant. i rad it cover to cover, and I can't wait till my daughter is old enough to get it. She's not quite four years old now, so its gonna be awhile, LOL

Just another vote for New Moon. I got it for dd(she'll be 10 this fall) and we're both happy with it!

I looooooved New Moon. It's such an empowering magazine for young girls! But pp is right...is there a craft or hobby she enjoys? If you go to a large bookstore and browse the magazine section you might find something that jumps out at you as being the right fit.

But don't limit yourself to just the "chatty" magazines...I had a subscription to National Geographic when I was around 11-12, and a subscription to Analog (a science fiction magazine) at about the same age. So if your niece has a specific passion for a subject there's almost certainly a magazine that addresses it. And if it really is a passion, she'll probably enjoy the publication even if it isn't "aimed" at the younger reader.

Muse was the hands-down favorite among all my kids. They'd fight over it every month!

Cicada is nice if she's into writing at all.

Good luck!

Stone Soup is another good one that my 12 year-old daughter and I enjoy. It's a literary journal that comes out 6 times a year and the stories, poems and illustrations are all done by 8 to 13 year olds who send in entries. There's no advertising in it, which is a great bonus.

We like these too. And New Moon, of course.

Thanks for all of the recommendations. I'll check them out.

I know that she is not a "girly-girl", so I didn't want to get her any type of fashion/style magazine. Some of the ones recommended sound like they would be right up her alley.
Thanks!

"National Geographic for Kids" is a big hit in our house. We used to gets "Kids Discover" but they didn't like it as much.

great!

Other than national geographic and discover, I didn't even know these existed!

OP, thanks for asking this question, I just ordered new moon for my dd.
