any wood-working genius out there?!?

Thread Starter
greetings!
a couple of questions regarding building some toys for ds (14 mo)
I should start this thread by saying that lovely, dear, dear hubby is actually a carpenter...but is so damn busy that he can't even give me a tutorial on wood and its wonders...
sigh.....

project #1:
push cart...
dimensions?
type of wood?
SIZE of wood....
after that I could probably scrap something together in this spatially challenged mind of mine...

project # 2
sand and water/ activity table

I really don't want to support the preskool type of toy industry, and would love to build a table that could accommodate interesting media like sand and water....now, the obvious challenge is wood and water....add a lining?
just build a small table and put large dish pans of sand and water on there?
I don't know...
I don't have endless amounts of time, but it would mean the world to me to make it myself....eegad with those gnarly tools!

TIA
sooooooo much thanks!
cheers
Kyara

I'm not really a woodworker, but I would think for both projects, pine would work and be easiest to work with. As for water/ sand proofing- I wonder if some kind of oil/wax over the wood would keep it waterproof? What do they use on boats?

Great ideas!!!
