My entire day in the ER

Thread Starter
Holy Hannah, what a day.
My other thread explained how I was having so much chest pain/breathing since last week.

Well, DH left on a business trip yesterday morning and by afternoon, the pain was getting worse. I was having so much pain while breathing. I couldn't sleep on either side and called him in Las Vegas at 1:40 AM crying.
I slept in 1 hour chunks.

My Dr. told me this morning that he felt it was a pulmonary embolism. He insisted I go straight to the ER.
I had the IL's meet me there and they took DD.
This was at 10:00 AM.
I finally went back to triage and said the pain was getting worse/having more trouble breathing-so at 12:30 I got back to the exams.

At 1:45 I was finally seen.
He sent me to the Cancer center for a lovely chest scan.
This entailed getting lost in a massive 100 yr old hospital and huffing and puffing the whle way and being sent in circles by staff.

Then more waiting and falling asleep sitting up.

Then inhailing radioactive oxygen, 6 scans, then being injected with more radioactive crap, then 6 more scans.

All to be told no, it's not a PE.
Back to the original ER.

Then finally being told I have plurisy. (ironically, one of the 3 things I suggested to my GP this morning)--An inflamation of the sac around the lung)

DH flewhome from Vegas to middle Canada and just got in 30 mins ago and is now out getting my demerol.
I am in a world of hurt.
I've never hurt like this before. I think this may be worse than my labor/c/s!

And now, I think it is crossing over the midline to infect my right side.
The only thing that could be worse is if I develop pericarditis too. (Inflamation of the sac around the heart)

Please think happy thoughts that I get over this and can breathe and move again soon!:

Oh my gosh mama...

*********I had basically the same thing when I was pregnant w/ my son... It started as severe chest pain, I could only describe it as someone put a heavy safe on my chest..

They too thought it was a pulmonary embollism.. It was found that I had pericardial effusion (a sac of excess fluid on the anterior part of my heart).. The pain subsided (onset was at 14wks).. For me it did return at 22 wks, but not nearly as bad... Both times the pain subsided in about 7ish hrs.

I had many echocardiograms and ekg's... It was found that the fluid bascially diminished at my 8wk post-partum check...

I already had my heart looked at this time around, and there is very minimal fluid..

**I hope you were okay w/ the scans.. I ended up having a ctscan w/ contrast, but I know they really aren't safe during pregnancy... But again with the thought of a embollism, it's either that or death...

Please pm, me if you have any questions..

You poor thing. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. I can't imagine that much pain and why the heck didn't someone escort you in a wheel chair to the other facility? You could have passed out or collapsed.

I hope the Demerol takes the edge off of your pain. Did any of the Drs suggest why this happened to you or is it another mystery of pregnancy?

Please take it easy and know you are in my prayers.

Not in your ddc but I've had pleurisy before so I had to offer my sympathy. It's awful!! I think pg hormones might make one more susceptible to it as I had my case when I started on the bcp. Please take care and take it easy.
