Dallas White park has *some* shaded areas,a covered pavillion,too. And they got new benches,which at least 1 is under a good shade tree.

That is where DS and I have been going a lot lately, I really like that park. There is also Harold Ave in Port Charlotte, there is a shaded picnic table area there. I'm open to any park really, doesn't matter much to us.

I was there too! We usually split up and run all over the store to get the trip over with quickly, it keeps DS entertained.

That works for me if we do it next wednesday (may 9th). I cant come this wednesday, but if the rest of you can make it, thats fine, I'll just catch up with everyone at the next meetup.

Im also in Sarasota My twins are 7 1/2 months but there are other moms with younger babies than mine that meet. We just hang out with the young babies while the older kids play on the play ground

I'm sure we'll do another group meetup in Sarasota in the near future if you cant make it to NP.

Also, I love taking my kids to the Marina Jacks park and just play with them on a big blanket under the trees. If you'd like to, you are more than welcome to come join us. PM me and we'll figure out a day/time we can meet there Looking forward to meeting you and your little one

Weds work for us! Although next Wed would prob be better. I am feeling kinda sniffly,and both ds's seemed to have a cold the past few days. So I will keep my germs at home. Jillian-I see your ds is 4,too. How neat! My ds just turned 4 in March. He will love to have someone to play with.

Thanks, sounds like a great idea to do sometime. We love that park. My dh and I love to take the dog and my 12 yo stepdaughter also.

Wanted to let you all know that there is a moms group that meets EVERY Friday 11-1pm at the Rosemary Birthing Center at 800 Central Ave. in downtown Sarasota. Went for the first time last Friday and had a good time.

This Wednesday (tomorrow), there's a babywearing class at 10am there at the birthing center. We'll probably be there, so....

Ive been going to that group since Nick & Katie were a couple weeks old (I dont make it every week though b/c N&K are often taking a nap at that time). I'll definitely try to make it this week though. A wonderful group of moms!!!

My DS just turned 4 in Feb, so they're not too far apart in age at all! I'll try to make the next playgroup next Wed but I'll be "full term" by then (finally!) so I can't guarantee I'll be there.

Does everyone know how to get to Dallas White Park in North Port? I'm pretty sure the name of the street it is on is Greenwood Ave. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. It's off of Sumter Blvd, exit 182 off I-75. You head towards 41 (follow signs) and take a right at the sign for Sabal Trace (I think it's Greenwood Ave). The park is on the left at the end of the street, about 2 miles down the street. It's next to the (very small) YMCA building.

We were there yesterday and there are a few different shaded areas, but it's not at shaded as Colonial Oaks.

Wednesday's usually work for us, but next week (the 9th) I have an appointment with my midwife at 3pm so I won't be able to make that one. I'll try to come next time but I'm close to 38 weeks so Savannah will be making an arrival soon . I heard nice things about the babywearing group and the mom's group that meets on Fridays and I'm looking forward to going, but it probably won't be until after the baby is born because we can't make it this Friday.

An alternate way to get to Dallas White park is to take Rt 41 to North Port Blvd, and take your second or third right onto Greenwood. The park is on your right.

Playaway vs. Gymboree

Hi, we live in Sarasota and we were thinking of joining Playaway. Does anyone have any thoughts on Playaway vs. Gymboree? I am looking for honest opinions before we join. thanks!

We used to go to Gymboree in Sarasota and it was ok. It was a little pricey and kind of far for us. We stopped going because DS wasn't really into it and there was a little boy who was VERY rough with all the kids there and his mother would not do a thing about it. He threw my DS down several times while his mom ignored it. I know that doesn't have much to do with the program itself but it's one of the big reasons we stopped going.

We haven't been to playaway yet but I hear good things about it. I'm pretty positive Gymboree will let you try out a free session if you are interested.

I haven't been to Play Away in Sarasota, but we go to the one in Venice a few times a week. My son takes an art class there and they have a 3 open play sessions available each week. My son loves going there. I haven't been to Gymboree, but I think both Gymboree and Play Away will let you try a session for free. We pay $120 for a 8 classes, and that includes the 3 open play sessions. It's been totally worth it for us (especially when it's really hot outside!).

I think I've asked you this before, but where in Venice is the Play Away? Do you know the address/phone number? DS loves doing art so I may sign him up for a class. I'm sure he'd love something like that, especially after the baby comes.

I'm glad you made it to 36 weeks! The art class is on Wednesdays at 10:30, but that's going to change over the summer. Play Away is on 41 in the same complex as the new movie theater. It takes me 20-25 minutes to get there from NP when I take 41. The phone number is 493-8907 but I'm not sure what the address is.
