New Mamas-How's nursing going? - Page 2

Shea was nursing like a champ and gained almost a pound his first week - about 2 ounces a day - WOW - but today I realized that I may have an oversupply . . .

He is choking/coughing at feedings, very gasy with explosive bms, and only feeds for short periods of time now.

I'm going to try feeding him "uphill" and just from one side at a time, and I may try block nursing. (I also did research at the Kelly Mom web site today!) I'm also looking into gripe water . . . does anyone know where to get it and is anyone also experiencing an oversupply?

Nursing is going ok, considering dd is jaundiced and falls asleep at the breast. My milk came in 2 days ago, and we've had lots of poopy/wet diapers since then. I haven't had her weighed yet, so don't know about that... But her latch could be improved, she doesn't seem to open wide enough.
Once my blood pressure issue is resolved, I'll have to go see a LC as dd is tongue tied as well.

gripe water at HFS, or i even saw some at Buy Buy Baby. I've given my son homeopathic Cocyntal when he's having real problems burping, and I tried Chamomilia when he seemed to have intestinal gas. both worked well and within minutes. i prefer homeopathy to gripe water because the amount you give is so much less.

I think my oversupply just kicked in. i had major OS issues with my daughter and i think they've just begun now, too. lots of choking, sputtering, milk running out while he nurses, green stool, etc.

I've been trying to be attentive to single-side feed for 2 hours (something that worked well with my daughter for oversupply and fore/hindmilk imbalance) but i admit that today i've been less attentive and more likely to pop him on the breast instead of looking for alternative methods to soothe first (in my defense i'm trying to do taxes, so nursing him all day is easier than stopping and trying to soothe him in other ways like going for a walk).

As soon as Arlo was born and laid on my chest, he started sucking frantically at his little fists! He latched right away and has been nursing well ever since. My milk came in 2 days ago and since both boys are nursing, I haven't even been engorged. Arlo nurses every few hours, both sides and cluster feeds from about 6-10pm and then sleeps until 3am, nurses, sleeps till 7am, nurses and then sleeps until 10am or so...it I didn't have to get up at 7am with Finn, I would be getting more sleep than I have in 2 years!
It's been really nice to not have any issues...with Finn, although he nursed well, it hurt like crazy for a few weeks. My nipples were so raw! This time the challenge is tandem nursing for me, and it's more of an emotional challenge than anything. I feel bad for Finn that I have to make him wait, or say no sometimes since it really is making him crazy right now. And today I'm feeling a little blue about it...

Help?

For 2 nights now, DD has tried to sleep through the night. The problem is, each night at about 3 or 4 am, one of my boobs has become so engorged it wakes me up. I wake her to nurse so that I can sleep, or at least be more comfortable. How can I resolve this? I would love to have her sleep throught the night.

Thanks ladies!

HFS?

Where can I get info on the homeopathy remedies? That sounds like the way to go - thanks Marnie!

I tried just feeding him on one side at a time last night but I get so tired and confused (despite my bf bracelet) that i'm sure I screwed that up - I don't even have taxes as an excuse!

I'm going to try alternative methods today - I completely forgot about my BH - sure wish I could think straight . . . :
