Any preggos still full time cosleeping with older child?

And I what I mean by full time is babe (toddler, older child) starts out in your bed and stays in your bed...not starts out somewhere else and ends up in your bed.

My question is, how do you transition the older child from falling asleep by mom to falling asleep by dad?

James snuggles up to me and falls asleep (he recently weaned from falling asleep while nursing)...well DH and I aren't planning on booting him out of our bed or transitioning him to fall asleep elsewhere. But I would like to transition him to fall asleep by DH so that the new baby isn't in danger.

The sleeping arrangement we're planning on is: Bed rail, James, DH, me, baby, or baby me depending on which side baby is nursing off of.

We've tried it a few times with no success. I'd rather do it sooner rather than later so he doesn't associate loosing the 'good spot' with the baby as much, kwim?

FTR, James is 2 years old, will be 33 months when the new baby is born.

Is there anyway you can sleep dh, ds, you, baby? When I was pg with ds2, I got dd a toddler bed and put it right next to ours. She didnt transition to it at first. Once she started falling asleep without nursing, she'd fall asleep in her room or the living room and then Id transfer her to the toddler bed. But in the begining, we just put ds2 b/t me and dh and put dd on the other side of me, using the toddler bed as what would catch her should she roll too far that way.

Now DD sleeps in the toddler bed mostly, sometimes still crawls into ours and ds2 is still in the middle, but with the new baby due anyday now I put the bar back on the toddler bed so I can put ds2 between me and the toddler bed and hopefully the bar will stop him from rolling into it and onto dd so that the baby can go in the middle. DS2 still nurses to sleep but has recently started sleeping all night once he is asleep so Im pretty happy about that!!

James is a violent sleeper. Sometimes I've woken up black and blue from being kicked or punched or slapped. He likes to do a 180 in his sleep and rest his feet on his pillow and his head down below...that involves a lot of kicking and punching. I'd be scared I'd be nursing baby on the right side and expose him/her to James and his violentness.

I guess I could sit up and stay awake if I need to nurse on the right side, but part of the charm of cosleeping is not having to wake up

Is there anyway you can bf across while side laying? I mean roll over and lay on the side the baby isnt nursing on so you can nurse from the other side? I could do that easily with my first, but with my last two it was too uncomfortable, but its just another idea to try, that way you dont have to move the baby to switch sides!

I don't know...I'm not very well endowed Even when James was brand new and my boobs exploded I only got up to a full C...

Hmmm...this will be tough because he really likes to snuggle up to me, right on top of me. I wish he'd snuggle with DH.

I wish I had advice, but we are faced with the same delima. I hope it's not too difficult to handle when baby gets here!

We are still fulltime cosleeping at almost 39 weeks prego(Luke is 32.5 mo), with no intentions to stop. However, dh usually doesn't sleep with us as he works nights, so half the time he is gone and half the time he is awake at night. I plan on Luke sleeping on one side of me and the babe on the other- perhaps using the cosleeper some(Luke never did but I will have it nonetheless. I was thinking that if I am between Luke and the babe that it should be fine, since it is usually only me and not dh with us I don't see any other way to do it. Luke doesn't nurse much anymore, kind of weaned, but this may change.

Good luck...I'm stumped by this one! We cosleep with 4 but none care WHERE they sleep, besides the babe who MUST be by me. If they all wanted to pile on me I'd be : - I admire you!
