Recycling old sheets

I am in need of some shopping bags, produce bags, and snack bags for DD's pretzels, grapes, cheese crackers, and whatever other dry snacks she would want I was thinking I could use my huge sheet stack to make these, seeing as only one set fits my bed Is there anything I should do to make them food safe? Also, could I dye them? I appreciate any ideas/comments/advice. TIA!

good idea -- if they are cotton then they'd be food-safe. But I'm not sure they would be strong enough to be shopping bags (unless maybe you did 2 layers, but handles might be tricky for that?).

but fabulous idea for stuff like produce bags and little baggies.

Thanks. Do you think it would be ok to dye them? I will probably just thrift some shopping bags

yes, I think it would be fine to dye them.

They are 50% cotton, 50% polyester, in that ok?

I'm not an expert, but I think you are going to have a hard time dying them if they are 50% polyester. I tried dying polyester once and it didn't take at all. Of course, it's possible I was doing something wrong so I'd be interested to learn what others think.

I have died some sheets before, but I dont know what fibers they were. What does anyone else think? Anyone with more dying experience than me?
