Heartbeat (mine not the babies)

Thread Starter
I was in for my first appointment last week. The nurse was unable to find the babies heartbeat as she figures I am only 6 - 8 weeks along. But... She did listen to my heartbeat and noticed that I have an irregular heartbeat. Every 6 beats my heart hesitates for a brief moment, then beats like normal.

This was never noticed with my previous 2 babies, so I worry that this is new. And I am terrified that it will mean a hospital delivery for me.

I am supposed to wear a monitor in the near future to help figure this out. They may even go so far as to do an ekg.

Does anyone have any experience with something like this? Any ideas of websites to read to totally freak myself out?

Thanks!

I've been told a bunch of times that mine does that too, I never really worried about it but do take Hawthorn berries and stay well hydrated when not PG, you can't take hawthorn PG.. I never really lost any sleep over it but I don't tend to worry about things like that, hopefully you were just a little dehydrated..

When I was pregnant with DS my heart was racing in the 170's and sometimes irregular. I wore a heart monitor to confirm it. I also had an EKG and an ECHO which both were normal. Only the heart monitor showed the fast HR. I also had very low Potasium level which I took oral potassium for. It was very scary. The low potassium caused a high HR and also contractions because it causes muscle irratibility. Well to get on with the store. I made the decision to see an OB along with my midwife. In the end the OB said the decision was ultimately up to me. He can't force me to deliver in the hospital. I talked to the midwife. She concented and I decided to trust my body. I had a beautiful home birth.
I would do the tests the doctors suggest if they are concerned. They may not be, then if everything looks mostly normal just trust your body.
A.fib is an irregular heart rhythm that is fairly common in pregnancy. The increase blood volume of pregnancy causes some extra stress on our hearts.
