where do you buy big jugs of vinegar and giant sacs of baking soda? It's not worth it to me to belong to one of these stores/clubs but I need giant amounts of vinegar and baking soda. What do I do?

Do you have a Cash and Carry close?

I can get gallon jugs of vinegar at any supermarket. It's cheaper per ounce to buy the store brand at a supermarket than the name brand at Costco. I'm not a member, but my Mom is, so I'm able to see what the prices are but it's a hassle to get stuff there on a regular basis.

Baking soda I just buy in 1 or 2 lb boxes at the supermarket. I don't use it much for cleaning though- I find it's a PITA to rinse off, so I only use it for major scrubbing occasionally, and I don't use it in laundry because I've found that i need so much to get clothes clean, and such a tiny amount of detergent to do the same job, that it's not really cost-effective.

You can buy baking soda at Feed and Tack stores. They usually carry "Sodium bicarbonate" in 25 lb bags. Super Super Cheap too!

Thanks for the help.

We don't have those stores that were mentioned.I guess I need to get myself over to the regular grocery store for some vinegar and maybe just stock up on boxes of baking soda.I don't use as much baking soda as I do vinegar but I do use it pretty often.

They have four pound boxes of Baking Soda at Wal*Mart.

We get baking soda in bulk at the co-op. They also have big jugs of vinegar.

I haven't been to a Sam's in a looooong time, but you used to be able to get a guest day pass and shop. I think you were limited in how you could pay (cash only maybe?), but you could shop there. You might call and find out what their policy is.

Yeah thot. Vinegar is less than $2 and $1 for 2 lbs BS (store brand)

A comment about vinegar... while I'm generally a fan of frugality, many 'store brands' of vinegar are actually petroleum based. The only brand that I know of that is food based is Heinz.

I can get Baking Soda in bulk at the HFS. If you needed more than a couple pounds, they'd usually be happy to order it for you.

Please explain more- What information indicates that it is petro? I thought I had seen the reference on our store brand to grain vinegar, so would that mean it does or does not contain petroleum? I tried to check under the sink, but apparently last time dh bought it, he got Heinz, so I can not figure out, yet. The Heinz also states that it is grain vinegar.

Another place for cheap baking soda is the dollar store. Ours is 2 regular-sized boxes for $1, I think. But I get mine at Costco.

I get baking soda at the feed mill~50 pounds for $7. It is not food grade though, I use it for cleaning and laundry. I then buy boxes of arm and hammer at the grocery for baking.

Wow! $7 for 50# is a great price! I pay $15 for that at my feed store.
