slip covers

Thread Starter
Just wondering if anyone knows where I might find a pattern for a couch cover. I looked into buying one but they are very pricey. They look like they would be simple enough to make.
Thanks

may want to check the library, and flip through some of their books... don't just do a search for slipcovers I'd say look through all but their garmet type sewing books look at the older books too, not just the new ones,

I actually have Goodhousekeeping New Complete Book of Needlecraft by Vera P. Guild cop. 1971 ISBN 0-87851-002-8 and it has a section "sewing for the home" which goes into how to make slipcovers, tells you how to measure the couch/chair and sew them right up, all in 13 pages

would give you a good place to start though.

hope this helps, maybe someone else can help w/ finding an actual pattern

If you want to make one that is fitted, all you have to do is measure each separate surface, cut a piece bigger so as to allow for seams, then pin together directly on top of the couch (or chair) with seams facing out, as close to the edges as you can get the pins. It help also to draw a line along the edges to make a sewing guide. Then simply take the slip cover off the couch, sew along the lines you drew, and flip inside out. Voila! (Be sure to wash fabric behorehand because shrinkage with a fitted cover = disaster.)

Someone from here posted this over a year ago. It is the best DIY slipcover inspiration I have ever seen!

here's a thread I started awhile ago with lots of helpful ideas I received from the wise mamas here. I am still trying to get up the courage to make these! (and need to decide on fabric)
