I knew you all would understand...

Thread Starter
This is my first post here but I knew I could come here and let off a little steam. Another forum I am a member of has a thread running re: circs. People keep saying that their son didn't suffer, if you would watch a circ you would understand, and he didn't cry one bit! It is so aggrivating that these loving mothers can't see what is plainly in front of their face.....of course it hurt! You cut a piece of skin, bundles of nerves, and banks of blood vessels off!! I think if these mothers could look at an adult un-circed penis and see what is considered the foreskin, they would see the vessels and the function of this "usless piece of skin."

Ohhhh.....I could go on and on....I am just SO GLAD I found somewhere I can go and get support for not cutting my son (if we have one this time)!

I can totally understand your frustration. : My brother & SIL are like this. They can't seem to see that it does hurt- in the short and long-term. For whatever reason, people have become really good at lying to themselves (and others) about this.

i understand completely, while circ is not an issue here, i can only imagine how frustrating it must be to have people in such deep denial.

This response will probably get pulled, but... I was looking at my intact penis today while urinating and thinking to myself: "How could ANYONE not appreciate the wonders of an intact penis??!!" Besides the protection fact, the extreme higher sensitivity involved, at that moment in time, I was more into the fact that it's a mobile cuff of skin that adds to the sexual pleasure. What's so interesting about manipulating (masturbating) a circ'd one?

Sorry but as someone who has personally witnessed circs, I can say that no baby is quiet and content. They usually come back to the mother in shock. Nurses are also notorious for lying to parents and telling them that their baby slept through it all.

A friend that is an IBCLC at a hospital hates it when male babies come back to mom after being circ'd because they are often too traumatized to nurse.

People will say anything to take the heat off themselves.

From a female point of view, I agree that intact penises are something to be appreciated.

I was just in a circumcision debate, where a handful of mothers said they watched the whole thing and their baby didn't make a peep. There is no way that is possible considering that even the most effective anesthetic only removes ~76% of the pain (from the AAP). Mmmmhmmm, sure your baby just laid there calmly while their foreskin was ripped apart from their glans, crushed and amputated.

I don't buy that excuse at all. Even in the rare case where a baby never makes a peep, I don't understand how a parent could view that and go through with it. :

They are lying; very few of them have the guts to watch it.

You do wonder who believes these women/men saying that their baby slept through a circumcision without a single peep.

I remember when my babies all had to have heel prick at 5 days old to get blood for various tests - and they screamed their heads off. For a heel prick!

How anyone could believe you could amputate part of the most sensitive part of the body without any pain involved is beyond me.

Denial is an amazing thing...

and very powerful - they have probably convinced themselves their babies didnt cry as the alternative is unbearable to them.

however, my dd did not cry with the heel prick test - honest - i was holding her the entire time, she didnt even seem to notice.

About the not making a peep-- I read somewhere that some babies truly do not make a sound because they are in such a high level of shock that they retreat into a state of near-unconsciousness just to deal with the pain... therefore making them *look* like they're okay, when really they're probably in a worse place/ more pain than those babies that are still ABLE to cry.

Babies definitely do have a shutdown reflex when it comes to anything overstimulating that their little brains cannot yet handle. DS#1 once slept at a college basketball game where almost 20,000 people screamed their heads off at a game-winning basket as the clock expired. I'm sure the same is true with circumcision.
