Sacramento Robin, I just went to a parent orientation at the Golden Valley Elementary School and have to say that I was VERY VERY impressed. I love the Waldorf culture, but after a lot of consideration I don't think I will be sending my children there (I have 3 children, the oldest being almost 3, so we have some more time to change our minds

). I am VERY into having a semi-Waldorf home and especially love the natural toys. They are abundant in our house and I am on a first name basis with the owner of the new Waldorf-ish store in Old Fair Oaks (great store called The Great Forest).

However, I can't get over the book/reading thing. I do agree with delayed reading, but there is something that makes me a little uncomfortable with that in today's society (long story, I'll spare you

). But the school sounded wonderful. They ask for a $100 donation/month per child (a lot cheaper than Sac Waldorf school at about $1000/month!). I have to say I didn't care for the principals demeanor. She seemed extremely snobbish, for lack of a better word, when I asked her about a pre-school that I'm very interested in (Bev Bos' preschool in Roseville). She just really turned me off. I also understand they promote a very peaceful environment, but they discourage music and especially music in the car in the a.m. on the drive to school. I'm a musician and both myself and DP worked in the music industry. Music is a huge part of our lives. But if that is something that appeals to you, Golden Valley is a WONDERFUL alternative to private Waldorf schools. I give it two thumbs up!
We go to the Funtastic in El Dorado Hills all the time and I have a friend in Elk Grove that I'm going to start meeting there from time to time. It's a GREAT place (I even looked into franchise opportunities, but BIG $$$!).
