My milk came in really late so we were doing periodic weight checks with our midwife. Logan gained as follows:

3/29 (Birth): 7 lb, 4 oz
3/31 (2 days): 6 lb, 11 oz
4/1 (3 days): 6 lb, 13 oz
4/3 (5 days): 6 lb, 14 1/2 oz
4/6 (8 days): 7 lb, 2 oz
4/16 (18 days): 7 lb, 10 oz

I was just curious if anyone else was doing weight checks to compare notes!

We are not going in regularly for weight checks, but have seen the doc alot for jaundice. DD's weight is as follows:

birth: 6 lb 1 oz
2 days: 5 lbs 10 oz
4 days: 5 lb.s 6 oz
1 week: 5 lb 10
1 1/2 week: 6 lb 1 oz
2 weeks: 6 lb 6 oz
2 1/2 weeks: 6 12 oz

She gets weighed again today. I think she is somewhere in the mid 7's now.

I have weighed Micah a couple times. I want to see if this is possible.

Birth 4/13: 6 lbs 2 oz and 3 different people checked
4/17: 7lbs 6 oz and I checked it a couple times but am going to have my hubby do it a bit later to check

How is that possible?

I highly doubt he could haved gained that quickly, probably an error somewhere.

milo was born at 6 pounds 11 ounces.
3 days: 6 pounds 0 ounces.
10 days 7 pounds 0 ounces.

he's growing pretty much like my daughter did - a pound a week for the first 12 weeks. let's see if he keeps it up. he nurses less than she did, so we'll see.

Subbing to this thread, DS has an appt tommorrow. He hasn't been weighed since he was 4 days old. He was 8lbs 3oz at birth, 7lbs 12.9 oz at 3 days and 7lbs 13oz at 4 days. So we'll see how big he is at 3.5 weeks!

No new baby here yet, but both of my older sons gained at least 24 ounces a week for the first month, then a pound a week for the following two months (yes, we had a 29-lb 3-month old). They seemed to plateau there for quite a while afterward and are really quite slim now at 3 and 6 years old. If you are interested in seeing the growth charts for breastfed babies (most pediatricians will use the growth charts that are 'donated' to them by the formula industry, which are based on formula-fed babies), you can find them on the CDC website.

Our guy was born at 8lbs 4 3/4 oz and dropped to 7lbs 13 oz when we left the hospital at 2 days old. He was checked at 6 days old and was back to 8lbs 4 1/2 oz. He hasn't been weighed since and doesn't go to the ped until he's a month old. He can't wear his newborn clothes anymore so I know he's getting bigger.

This is my tiniest baby so I'm paranoid that she's not gaining enough, but I got reassurance yesterday that she is.....

birth weight: 6lbs 10oz
discharge weight at 3 days old: 6lbs 3oz
weight at 5 days old: 6lbs 6oz
weight at 12 days old: 6lbs 15oz
weight at 15 days old: 7lbs 1oz

My pediatrician said they like to see babies back up to their birth weight at 2 weeks and the LC told me yesterday that she likes to see it back at 3 weeks.

Abby is 15 days old and hasn't been weighed since 9 days old, but she was 8 lbs1oz at birth, 8lbs6oz at 7 days old and 8lbs7oz at 9 days old. Maybe I'll have DH pull out the scale later...

My son was 7lb 13oz at birth and exactly one week later (ebf) he was 8lb 4oz...so yes, it's absolutely possible.

ETA: just realized that you're talking a 1lb + gain in 4 days...possibly an error there.

Lincoln was 7 lbs 11 oz at birth and then lost 14 oz before we left the hospital.

We weighed him on thursday and he was only 7 lbs 5 oz. I am a little worried since my other 3 babies were well above their birth weight by two weeks and he's not even up to it again (well maybe by now) BUT he is eating well and pooping and peeing a ton.

This is the first time I've nursed two though so I do worry about him not getting enough hind milk.

When would you worry about slow weight gain?

I think maybe the scale is wonky and babe was closer to 8 lbs at birth and then down to 7lbs 6 oz or so. We are going to ped tomorrow so we should get an accurate weight there and maybe can specculate on what he my have weighed at birth.

yup all my babies so far have done that pretty much, all never lost weight after birth and all gained fast all where born 7lbs ( 11, 14, 7 oz) and all where 11 lbs by one month

We see this a lot with women who have been on IV's before the birth for any period of time (think, induction or c-section or on fluids during long labor). Baby tends to 'suck up' a lot of that fluid and is born with extra water weight. It can be really distressing to parents to see their kids lose this much, but some babies do just seem to hold onto a lot of that fluid. It would be very, very unusual for a baby to legitimately lose this much weight in the two to three days in hospital.

thanks for your response. Since it was a scheduled section I was on IV fluid for almost 2 hours before his birth and of course during and afterwards. and he did lose a ton of fluid cause he looks skinnier, his face was rounder the day he was born. But still, all of my kids have been c-sections and have regained by 2 weeks so I worry about my new one. My 3rd did lose a pound in the hospital but again he gained it and more back quickly. I'm trying to distract my 2 year old who is constantly asking to nurse now to make sure the baby is getting his share

I am glad someone else said their LC likes to see babies back to their birth weight by 3 weeks, that makes me feel better cause I bet by then he will be over that amount.

So I tried weighing just the sling several times and each time it was different. So today at the ped he was 7 lbs 13 oz and so I figure he was somewhere around 8 lbs give or take a few ounces.
