How Often was your dc who started preschool sick this year? - Page 2

My DS had his first cold at age 2. He was never exposed to other kids and therefore exposed to few cold germs. When he started preschool he was sick the first month. After that it was every other week or so, it just never seemed to end. And of course the rest of the family got it too. At least being preschool and I am home, he can stay out as much as needed. Next year is kindergarten and days absent will be counted. But he is now getting exposed to the school germs and hopefully we will all be better next year.

I will say his school is really great about washing hands and general hygene. When I was checking out preschools I went to one where the kids all received popcorn (ages 2-3) and not one was asked to wash hands before eating.

DD hads not missed a day of preschool for illness after starting this year. She had one day of a boogy nose from the pollen count going up high, but it was manageable and she did not wnat to miss. She has been in daycare since 7 weeks old (single mom, family has to eat), but has only had 2 ear infections and a few common colds. Guess we have been lucky.

However, her preschool requires hand wasking before school, before lunch and snacks, after toileting, and before leaving for the day.

DD1 started school for the first time in Dec at 5yo and has been sick since she started. I was expecting it to happen but didnt realize it would continue for so long. Mostly she has had cold viruses- really bad cough and stuffy/runny nose, most lasting on ave 3 weeks, she is well for a few days and then sick again. She did get pink eye and a couple viruses that caused fever for a few days so she missed school a few times over illness (out for a week with pink eye). The issue that has me frustrated and ready for summer break to come is the coughing at night which has been so bad it has left us all sleep deprived for months. That and also the fact that dd2 had all of it too but she is only 10mo so it has been rough. Hoping next year will be different.

If my daughter misses more than 12 days of school in a year she can be involuntarily dropped from the program...now her teacher is more lenient on it, and said if we had doctor's notes he wouldn't count them as days absent...but if a parent didn't fight that they'd have no idea, so it makes sense why they send their kids to school sick.

Dd started preschool last fall and has had one cold and a 24 hour stomach virus. I'm not sure that she picked either of them up from school, though. Ds, who isn't in preschool came down with symptoms to both before she did. I usually keep her home if ds is sick because I assume that even if she doesn't catch what he has, she can carry it. Her teachers are VERY appreciative of that. Fortunately, neither of them get sick very often at all. As a matter of fact, that was only her second cold in 5 years.

Preschool was much harder for us (and on us) than elementary school. Our ped told us that the immune system isn't built up until around age five or six to withstand the constant barrage. That, and the kids don't lick their hands and each other as much.

It was last year and I think Hope was only sick 1-3 times during the year.

Having said that two years ago is when we started giving her multivitamins every day. It was after that point she stopped getting colds all the time.

The year before that in daycare she was sick a lot.

I've found that between the Tahitian Noni Juice and multivitamins she is very healthy compared to other kids I know.

My daughter is 6 and in Kindergarten but she was in pre-k for two years. She had never been in a daycare environment either. It was nuts! She still has problems with it. She's had this persistent cough since November. I've taken her to have x rays done twice because I was convinced there is a deeper problem. According to the doctors she has seen; she's getting hit repeatedly with similar virus'. She recovers slightly but her immune system is still weak and then she gets hit with another one. We've been pumping her full of green tea and vit. c. It seems to be helping.

So it seems some are in the same boat and others luckier. I wonder if this years illnesses were worse in certain regions of the US? I am in the Northeast. I know some other preschool age kids and their famlies have had a hard time this year in my region - but it just seems that my ds has been hit reallly hard. :

I'd like to know about what you all are using to strenghthen your dcs immune system. I am giving my ds First Defense by Child Life and multi vits. But I am a WOHM and can't be sure my dh and mother are giving themt o him when he gets home from school. :

What is Kidewell and Noni juice? Where can get them?

TIA!

We were one of the 'unlucky' ones (although I liked that her immune system was being strengthened now instead of in kindergarden). DDs 1 and 2 were sick for...3 months straight! Back to back - everything. Ear infections, high fevers, colds...you name it. We were absolutely spent at the end of it. BTW this is from a family who's 1st DD was not sick once before age 1.

I bought a book called 'Superimmunity for Kids' - some excellent ideas.

We give Omega 3/6 fish oil (Nutrasea), and Kindervital liquid vitamins by Flora. Lots of soups with lots of veggies. There really is only so much you can do and worry about.

Noni is a fruit from Tahiti that has been used for over 2000 years for various health ailments.
I've been using Tahitian Noni Juice for nearly 6 years now and love it!

It has helped me with soooo many health issues including regularity, energy, and interstitial cystitis (IC). It has also helped me with better concentration, memory and clearer thinking!

Hope took TNJ since she was a baby. She didn't have the diaper rashes or the pain that my friends' children seemed to have while teething. Also she has an excellent memory. She remembers some things with incredible details from one year ago!

See my link for my info on TNJ if you are interested.
